Boro bolster defence

Middlesbrough have completed the double signing of defenders Jonathan Woodgate and Robert Huth.

Real Madrid centre-half Woodgate, 26, has moved to the Riverside on a season-long loan deal with the option of making the deal permanent.

Long-time target Huth, 22, has signed a five-year contract after completing a £6m switch from Chelsea.

Boro boss Gareth Southgate told the club website: "This is a significant coup and a big boost."

Desparately needed for a defence that has shipped 8 goals in just 3 goals. Huth a little dear at that price given his lack of starting appearances in the premiership.

That's gonna take some sorting out.

Woodgate could be useful, and hopefully return to top form - and perhaps challenge the dominant CB pairing for England (that'll take some doing though, he's got a lot of work to do!)

As for Huth, I think 6m is a bit optimistic at best. That's a shovel load of money over the odds - he's got a lot of work to do to prove he's worth the price tag slapped on him.

I thought he was always a bit overrated myself, perhaps I'll be proved wrong. ;)

Woodgate's always injured so he might play 10 games at the most...Huth isn't good enough for Boro imo, and why they payed 6 mil i dont know. They also signed Jason Euell aswell :S odd signings...

Which is why they've got him on loan, so he can be offloaded if he does keep getting injured but they have the option to buy him if he doesn't keep getting injured (and he plays well obviously)

i totally disagree about Huth not being good enough for Middlesborough. When ever he played for Chelsea i dont recall him ever letting them down and was always a solid, competent defender. He is a full international and would walk into most premiership sides including some of the big teams such as Arsenal and Liverpool. Personally i feel he is too good for Middlesborough.
