Player ratings v Sunderland

Withdrawn out of deference to the people who attended the game.

Perhaps the moderators will consider deleting any opinions that are not based on actually being there!.

Giving player ratings based on radio commentary is bizarre at the best of times but you must have either been listening to Barber or from a Sunderland perspective. I think I'd leave the ratings to people who actually saw the game.

I think he should be allowed to rate players from radio commentary. After all they are not going to make any less sense then the ones he gives when he's been to the games.

From what I've seen there are lots of fans give ratings on the basis of radio commentaries. But if there's a school of thought that thinks it should be outlawed I've no great objection cos it's obvious someone in attendance will have a stronger case to make than someone listening.

Henderson -7- Kiscking was poor again at times and was holding breath every time it was passed back to him but made a smashing save from a header, and was steady throughout.

Johansson -6- Better performance from Nils, and actually went on a few runs rather than pass it backwards.

Kenton -8- I thought he was really good today, especially in the first half, where a dangerous Ross Wallace couldnt get the better of him.

McCarthy -7- Steady

Kisnorbo -7- Ditto

Wesolowski -7.5- You can see the lad has class. Always wanted the ball and wasnt afraid to mix it with Kavanagh.

Johnson -7.5- Better performance today, and set up Fryatt well for the goal. He also made an amazing tackle when one of their strikers when he looked to be closing in on goal.

Hughes -7- He played alrite and got stuck in on occasions, but tends to take too long on the ball

Porter -7.5- Dont think he gave the ball away today. A constant threat to the sunderland right back and his confidence seems to grow each match. Sure of a starting spot now

O'Grady -9- This lad was absolutely immense today. I can see why kelly picked him ahead of hume, the sunderland defenders couldnt deal with his strength and pace. He ran Cunningham ragged. All good things came through him today. On this performance we will struggle to keep hold of him.

Fryatt -8- Lively, with a well taken goal. A nuisance round the box and never stopped running.

To sum it all up, it was a real battle of a performance from the boys and we were not out classed at all by a rejuvinated Sunderland side. If we can play more like this then I can see us win more than we lose.

Glad I withdraw my ratings. I'd underestimated several performances. Weso must have been immense cos Kavanagh hardly got a look in and he's supposedly among the best in the division.

Nice to see the OGmonster getting MoM rating and pleased for Kenton and Johnson who, I believe, can fit into out emerging team because both are capable of retaining possession.

Henderson -6- Kicking was awful at first. He actually nutmegged a striker trying to close him down with one kick that he didnt manage to get off the ground. Could easily have cost us!

Johansson -6- Average. Scared of going over the half way line still

Kenton -9- MOTM in my opinion. Was fantastic in the first half and was unlucky to have the goal deflected in off him (i think it was deflected in anyway)

McCarthy -7- Didnt look to troubled

Kisnorbo -7- Ditto

Wesolowski -8- Possibly what we've been missing. Kept breaking up play and running forward with it or staying back to cover when Johnson ventured up - a possible good partnership?

Johnson -7- Better performance today, and set up Fryatt well for the goal. Did one amazing bit of skill to take it past a defender on one run - never knew he had it in him!

Hughes -6- We missed having the width today. So many times we had so much space on the right hand side but Hughes had wandered inside and the chance to exploit it was gone. Missed Low

Porter -8- A constant threat to the sunderland right back and looks a real prospect. 1st choice LM now in my opinion.

O'Grady -8- Another very competent performance in holding the ball up etc but my major worry is that he doesnt ever look like scoring. Gets into decent positions but never makes the most of them.

Fryatt -8- Great finish considering his start to the season and you could see what it meant to him.
