Shum Posted 27 September 2006 Posted 27 September 2006 I'm Indian, support Leicester and always have. My uncle took me to a game in 1992 and I was hooked. As Tom says, you go to Goals football and a lot of the teams in the league have a large number of asian players who play to a very good standard! Also the myth about parents wanting children to become doctors etc is not entirely accurate, especially in my family, and the people I know.
Dr The Singh Posted 27 September 2006 Posted 27 September 2006 I suppose the question for Burnley is the usual, how much will it cost and how much will it make. I don't have strong feelings either way. I'd love more fans at the games and couldn't really care less what their ethnic background is. Similarly I'd love our youth system to start producing quality players and again not really fussed on the players ethnicity. The feeling at ourside seems to be that the reason they don't come is because of racist chanting and abuse though these days you almost never hear racist chanting - almost but not quite. Not so sure on how the few asians who do come are treated so that may be a big barrier still I can't honestly say. In my experience, growing up only 2 minutes from the ground, near a 'LCFC' pub, racism from fans was common, slowly but surely racism has dampened down and yes this is the foremost reason why Asians have decided to attend games, they feel more accepted and wanted. There are rules and laws at grounds etc that protect them!!!! Asian people I speak to today are shocked that I as an asian go to footy matches, the stigma still exists, slowly but surely it will all go away!!!
Finnegan Posted 27 September 2006 Posted 27 September 2006 Aye, Singh, fair play it might have been done by a lot of teams, mate. But when your opponent's star under 13 striker gets in his BMW to drive home after the game, you get the feeling you've been had.

That would be the case if it was down here in Bognor! (a bit rough)

I've been away to everton, blackburn, leeds, nothing, yet only 3 seasons ago, we nearly got into a fight with the lads behind us, because they began making nazi salutes behind our backs and began shouting nazi slogans we confronted them and they back down, Tw@s. The steward was a Asian guy and was quite useless to say the least!!!

He got onto his walkie talkie to get back up, eventually the brigade came and split us up, but never bothered to ask what the trouble was instead threatened to chuck us out but by that time we agreed to meet the guys behind us for a punch up after the game!!! Now I think about it, I wish we got them chucked out and barred but at the time we were high on adrenaline and wanted to kick off, luckily those guys didn't turn up, because it was a stupid thing to do!! But amazingly one of the perpetrators was in our local after the game, and apologised and clarified that he was not part of the abuse etc. From that day on they never turned up again that season!!! Silly things silly times, i'm sure if we had reported them, after the incident they would have been banned and that would have been the right thing to do!!!!! The police are obliged to investigate all racist cases, so that was also an option.
The Don Posted 27 September 2006 Posted 27 September 2006 Leeds fans are the scum of the earth. Yes, but Leicester fans arn't much better - singing "we heard you ran from the turks, ran from the Tuurks"
Dr The Singh Posted 27 September 2006 Posted 27 September 2006 Yes, but Leicester fans arn't much better - singing "we heard you ran from the turks, ran from the Tuurks" Also the horrible, calling Dave Jones a paedophile..........................!!
Shum Posted 27 September 2006 Posted 27 September 2006 Yes, but Leicester fans arn't much better - singing "we heard you ran from the turks, ran from the Tuurks" Granted, that was bang out of order and some of us were in the firing line with the coin chucking while the idiots who started the chant ducked and ran! But Leeds have been singing the same old song when they visit Leicester for a number of years!
