Thracian Posted 29 September 2006 Posted 29 September 2006 Caught shopping, big deal. I mean, if he wasn't in good health, he had time off work - but if he couldn't feed himself, he'd be dead... then where would the company be? Besides, there's a big difference between a 1hr trip to do yer shopping and an 8 hour shift at work. Not quite the same kettle of fish, I'd have thought. Also many people with, say a dose of flu, would stay away from work to avoid infecting the whole workforce. But they still have their daily needs and might not always have others around to do things for them.

hairy Posted 29 September 2006 Posted 29 September 2006 Cheers people. The underlying issue here is the person is suffering from minor depression, and was seen at a religous event by someone from work who then obviosuly said something to management. I think it has been handled pretty badly by the company, to call someone at home, and basically attempt to scare them. Thanks for all the info. There you have it. A qualified doctor has said they have stress. This other employee has decided by looking at them they are well. How does that work? Whos right and whos wrong there? They can call them at home. They can ask them to see the Company doctor to make an independant assessment. You can refuse of course. The Company have got to be careful here because they may be seen to be bring undo stress to the employee and adding to their depression . Companys have to manage stress. One of the banks got taken for £420k for not managing stress on an employee earlier this year.

Daggers Posted 29 September 2006 Posted 29 September 2006 You're being a naughty boy today. The temptation to say "I know, spank me!" is quite overwhelming...but I shall fight it back.

Dellyjo Posted 29 September 2006 Posted 29 September 2006 I remember in my first job that one of the salesmen pulled a sickie (he was quite well know for it) & went down to London on the same day that our top managers were also having a meeting down there. The salesman was sitting at traffic lights when in a million to one chance, one of our managers pulled up along side him - needless to say, the guy got his marching orders!
