In a new audio message today, the man who is leader of al-Qaida in Iraq called for explosives experts and nuclear scientists to join his group's holy war against the West.

"We are in dire need of you," said the man, who identified himself as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir — also known as Abu Ayyub al-Masri — the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq.

He said: "The field of jihad (holy war) can satisfy your scientific ambitions, and the large American bases (in Iraq) are good places to test your unconventional weapons, whether biological or dirty, as they call them."

This came as no surprise to me because there is great sincerity behind the fundamentalist cause. Victory to some is worth any price.

Indeed there are those who believe nuclear conflict is inevitable in the fight for an Islamic earth.

And I've read that for many Believers it would be a price worth paying because for them it would be the only way to guarantee their place in Paradise instead of having to trust to Judgement.

But I wonder what God thinks of the prospect of so much of His Earth being rendered desolate and not just its people at random but its creatures and its plants and its beauty being laid to waste..

If God is all powerful and has the means to take or restore life - days after a vivid vision my own wife died last year and yet returned - then perhaps the masses of "warriors" who reach Paradise will be revived by His Mighty Hand and asked, after all, to justify themselves.

Then, faced with the Judgement Day they sought to sidestep, maybe they will find they cannot avoid being answerable for their time on Earth.

And maybe, if given mercy, they will be returned to Earth to preach what I understand was the original Islamic message of repentence, patience and forgiveness. Peace and goodwill if you like.

Maybe they will return with the purity that seems to have been diluted through being subject to the human misinterpretation and misunderstanding of ancient messages.

If there is a genuine fear of God then man might be best to think for himself rather than be led by others.

Ask 1000 men how far Melbourne is from London and nearly all of them will get it wrong.

Ask those same 1,000 men how far Vladivostock is from Rio de Janeiro and some who answered the first question correctly will get the second one wrong...

Since it started there have been only five winners of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - and that only involves a handful of relatively simply questions.

What chance then of mere mortals getting the answers right to so many spiritual and religious questions - and about words uttered many thousands of years ago?

If Man truly fears God he might best do so with modesty and humility not in the belief that he has the wisdom to lead others.

"And a man went out into the desert..." so many scriptures say. And why?

Because that's where he could best hear. And that's where he could best meditate. Alone.

....

Just food for thought in an often bullying and self-seeking world.

What reasoning is that?

if, as they see it, we are trying to bomb their arses. why would they not want to take the war to us? especially as we're on their patch. that war; it's here all week

And you can understand that....?

I clearly went to the wrong school.

i said it is a war they want to win and they are going to do all they can to win it (both parties) did i say it was right? no. but i can understand them wanting not to be beaten. ffs!

So are you saying that's the green light for unrestrained combat by all parties?

Bloody hell - and we talk about rottweilers!.

This pisses me off. There are freedom fighters, and then there are madmen. What are they fighting for? They're fighting the 'West'? What the hell does that mean? We don't think the same way they do, so we're target practice?

They're not fighting for anything. If they want people to believe they're fighting against oppression, it's not done by calling for nukes against a 'particular type of person.' That's called genocide.

It seems they're struggling so their fundamentalist ideal prevails. And that can be done with words.

read the post, its not that hard :rolleyes

however, what i would say is, and not wanting to put words into peoples mouths especially when do have much time for them, they might see that they (al-Qaida in Iraq) are in a war with the only country to have used a nuclear weapon, in a war situation, against civilians.

To be an abject war-mongering w*nker is not the preserve of religion or nationality, the West has them too. :(

Yes, but the West do have rules, and inparticular when engaging an enemy. If the roles were reversed and these so called jihadis were the major force there wouldn't be a natiion allowed to speak up against them.

Yes, I know you refer to Bush, but if we replaced Bush with Osama, or Ahmedijabad (Iran President), Bush would be seen as a 'girls scout'!!!!

I agree with your point, but one must imagine what type of man Abu Hamza al-Muhajir is, his upbringing and his beliefs. A man who has only a 'single vision' towards his objectives only and the lure of paradise and doing gods will, gives him his justification.

To call him mis guided or uneducated is not correct, the issue is whether there religious study takes more presidence over everything else and also which angle (interpretation) has been undertaken!! The point is every religious book, etc is up for interpretation and conjecture, the thing a man has to decide doew on live by a book claiming to be the highest authority or does he live by the guidance of of the world that is!!!

Actually, no I don't refer directly to Bush but to all petty hate-mongers within societies.

The West does indeed have rules of engagement, but quite often war is fought by people who didn't read them from the lid of the box.

pretty much my point. but (for a really bad example) if you were going to play football, would you decide not to wear boots while the other side did? the point in this case is that the west (as well as idia and pakistan and others) have a nuclear arsenal, that, al-Qaida in Iraq feel they have to match.
