Steven Posted 4 October 2006 Posted 4 October 2006 Ah! The cut and thrust world of re-insurance! Treaty or Facultative.
Sparky Posted 4 October 2006 Posted 4 October 2006 Huge. Their head office is down here in Maidstone I believe. I actually know quite a few bits and pieces about them and what went on a way back... But yes - Towergate are a big name in Insurance. They keep buying everyone else! she works for towergate wilsons at grove park who mainly do military insurance
Suffolk_fox Posted 4 October 2006 Posted 4 October 2006 My dad used to work in Insurance, and he also worked as an Estate Agent as well as a very brief stint as a Double Glazing Salesman. A friend of mine once said 'Dont your Dad want ANY mates?' 'Nuff said...
The People's Hero Posted 4 October 2006 Author Posted 4 October 2006 Insurance folk are, in my experience, always trying to prove how fun, zany and 'out there' they are. Loads of them do heli-skiing which seems to involve jumping out of a helicopter and then ski-ing down slopes. It's the addiction to risk I swear. Real drinking culture too. I don't fight the stereotype however, I actually just am boring. I accept this.
Daggers Posted 18 December 2006 Posted 18 December 2006 With due deference to our resident insurance people (you're lovely and not evil at all)...the rest of the insurance world is populated by arseholes. Endsleigh sent a renewal for our contents policy last week and, considering that we have not claimed in last 12 months (or ever), adjusted the price. Instead of asking us for another £345.00 they decided we must be more stupid than a room full of football players. They asked for £450.00. The call centre woman phoned me today to find out why I hadn't renewed yet and if there was a problem with the quote. Being unable to answer why they were acting like robbers she promised to phone me straight back with a better quotation. She didn't. I went straight to www.confused.com and got a policy that also covered accidental damage, my bikes and personal stuff outside the home for £178.00. Why are these people so evil? Come the glorious day insurance people will be the first against the wall. Grr. Use Confused.com people ~ shop around at renewal time.

Daggers Posted 18 December 2006 Posted 18 December 2006 I hope you've got terrorism cover..... I wanted K&R cover for my shed but they don't do it.
The People's Hero Posted 18 December 2006 Author Posted 18 December 2006 Insurance people are sound. The people who work in call centres who are employed by huge Insurance corporations are generally stupid.
Zingari Posted 19 December 2006 Posted 19 December 2006 did anyone hear about that bloke who bought a box of expensive cigars and insured them against fire , he smoked them all and claimed the money from the insurance who had to pay up .......however the sting in the tail was that he was arrested for arson
