Thracian Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 Mansfield Town have extended the loan spell of the Leicester full-back Alan Sheehan for a second month, reports BBC Radio Nottingham. He has made six appearances for the Stags in his first month at Field Mill. Sheehan, 20, made four appearances for Leicester last season but had not figured for the Championship side this term before moving to Mansfield. He is likely to be in the Mansfield squad for the Nottinghamshire derby against Notts County on Saturday.
Wils Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 Should send Nils out and bring Sheehan back......Least Sheehan has a bit of pace.
lookwhaticando Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 Should send Nils out and bring Sheehan back......Least Sheehan has a bit of pace. They wouldn't take him, and he'd refuse to go. I'm hoping someone secures his services in January - I can see Sheehan staying at Mansfield til the end of the year, then coming back to displace Nils. Or a long-term injury would be handy - has Nissa ever been injured properly?

He might have been mistaken but Kenton's come as an alternative right-back/centre back, Johnson as an alternative midfielder, Low as a winger but there's no serious alternatives at left-back. In fact I doubt anyone at Leicester will want to be known as a left-back. It'd would be like being forced to drive non-stop in one direction only to find it's a bloody cul-de-sac.

As stated RK, feels comfortable having a defensive outlook to his team!! Nils offers height and is not so bad defensively, going forward is not a trait he's particularly interested in for that position!!!

With inevitable financial tightening at some point in the (near) future, he'll have to trim the wages. So if he does feel like offering Nils a new contract beyond this season, he'll probably have to offer reduced wages. Hopefully then we'll see Nils' true colours - he's not willing to play for less and in a non-preferential position in the back four.

The daft thing is that Nils has been solid enough all season - I just think we are desperate to link the team together properly and that's where his shortcomings show...in his distribution and ongoing movement. But some posters are willing to accept a cautious, defensive approach so long as we don't lose. To me that's frightening as far as our future is concerned because I've seen enough to know that the "don't lose" part won't work often enough to get us the points we need for success. And, of course, it won't be fun to watch.
stez Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 how is sheehan doing at m'field? well enough i suppose as they've extended his stay.
lookwhaticando Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 how is sheehan doing at m'field? well enough i suppose as they've extended his stay. He's keeping match-fit to enable a comeback at Leicester worthy of... Stan Collymore.
Babylon Posted 5 October 2006 Posted 5 October 2006 But some posters are willing to accept a cautious, defensive approach so long as we don't lose. I'm willing to have a defender who is cautious... because their priority is defending. Like i'm willing to have a striker that doesn't chase back to his own goal line. Plus Sheehan has not exactly set the world on fire on loan going on the reports since his debut.

One MoM and one selection for the Team of the Day's not bad for a guy who's played so little football these last few months, in fact since last Christmas really. How many MoM's has Nils had? But to clarify an impression. I have as many concerns about Sheehan as anyone else and had another left back arrived who could link the play I'd have been pleased. But where is such a player?.
