reynard Posted 15 October 2006 Posted 15 October 2006 certainly feels good to at last be entertained and come away with 3 points. yet I believe at least 4 of yesterday's starting line up are out of contract at the end of the season. williams, tiatto, johnson and Nissa and with our current financial situation not sure how many will be here next season. as this was one of our best league performances this year and a quarter of our team are on short term contracts i'm not sure what this means for our long term plans. we won today (against a highly rated side) with experienced players would we have achieved the same result with a midfield of say low huges weso porter and a left back Sheehan who even Thraciean appears to be losing faith in I have to say that I don't think we would have on current evidence.
Tommeh Posted 15 October 2006 Posted 15 October 2006 Williams is the only contract I'd extend at the moment.

I try to call it as I see it - with Sheehan or anyone else. I think we have a weakness at left-back, and still do despite Nils' defensive solidarity. But I think Joe Mattock is the most likely competitor for that place now, which probably means Nils is safe for the season. Then again I still think Low, Johnson and Tiatto are weaknesses too, and, of course, Hughes when he plays. And that doesn't reflect a whole lot of progress these last 12 months in terms of our style of play. Kelly's pleased that we're hard to beat, and the record might suggest he's right but we're hard on the eye too most of the time. Two moments of individual brilliance shone like a beacon on a dark night yesterday. a
newms Posted 15 October 2006 Posted 15 October 2006 If we dont retain Johnson i'm sure we could do a similar deal with another player next season. Nissa is consistently at fault and one of the poorer players in the team I think that Sheehan is being primed to replace him and i dont think we will suffer from his loss. Tiattos getting older and injured suspended often, I think we'll bring Welsh in on a free or nominal fee if we can find it as Kelly seems to like him. only player i'd keep is Williams as I feel he offers something different to our other midfield players and is probably the most talented player in the squad. he doesnt always show it but i still think that hes valuable and difficult to replace. So atleast losing 3 of the 4 players and getting them off they wage bill may actually benefit us
Ultra Posted 16 October 2006 Posted 16 October 2006 I'd like to see Nisse and Williams stay. Nisse's looking for top flight football. He's more likely to get it back in Sweden than he is here though.
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 October 2006 Posted 16 October 2006 Tiatto has said he's going home after this season, Nisse wants out, Johnson will probabley get an extension as will Williams unless he plays amazing and gets a deal somewhere else.
Ric Flair Posted 16 October 2006 Posted 16 October 2006 Although we won I thought both Tiatto and Nils were terrible on saturday. Johnson was better than he has been but still not mobile enough for my liking. Wesolowski and Porter have performed far better than Tiatto and Johnson for the majority of the games they've played this season. I've no worries over those two replacing Tiatto and Johnson. Johansson isn't anything special either, I would like to see a proper left back for once being played.

Unless your counting our games against the scrapings of the football league barrell. Which is unfair.

On this issue of first team games that count and those that don't can we delete our defeat by Wycombe from the records seeing as it wasn't a match against proper opposition?

Do you not think its a bit unfair to directly compare one players performance against Macclesfield at home to anothers against Birmingham City away.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 16 October 2006 Posted 16 October 2006 Great, the old quality of opposition thing. Can I just get Hinckley/Real Sociedad out of the way first.
Sods Posted 16 October 2006 Posted 16 October 2006 Williams is the only contract I'd extend at the moment. Same here i think williams was qualiy on saturday, and johnson did his job well too. I think nisse wont stay next season and i would like to see sheehan in that position but will it happen? I think will get welshy as a permanent in the summer to replace tiatto which i wouldnt mind

But I just can't see Johnson performing aswell as Wesolowski even if Johnson were to play against Lower League opposition. His legs have gone.
Thracian Posted 16 October 2006 Posted 16 October 2006 Do you not think its a bit unfair to directly compare one players performance against Macclesfield at home to anothers against Birmingham City away. I think all the first team fixtures have to be played and won. We're only playing Aston Villa and making some worthwhile money because we've not done what we did against Wycombe but did a workmanlike job on Macclesfield and Hereford (a place where others have come unstuck in the past). I could say Ipswich were abyssmal when they came here, so bad that anyone's good performance for City was hardly worth counting. But Ipswich have sure sounded better than abyssmal since. You can only beat the opposition, whoever they happen to be.
