Anyone else see the biting incident on MOTD2 last night?

The pundits found it amusing, but I thought Defoe's action was appalling, especially as it may set a trend for others in the league to follow.

Maybe the FA need to step in and impose a ban to make it clear that it will not be tolerated.

And hopefully Steve McClaren will bear it in mind when picking the next England squad.

Sports minister Richard Caborn has called on the Football Association to look at video evidence of Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe's tussle with Javier Mascherano on Sunday.

Spurs striker Defoe seemed to take exception to a tackle from behind from Mascherano, as he turned to face the Argentinian before appearing to bite him on the arm.

Mascherano doubled up in pain following the incident and referee Steve Bennett chose to book the duo.

Spurs chief Martin Jol has described Defoe's response as 'a playful nibble', but this has not sat well with Caborn who has called for FA intervention.

"Any action like this I hope the authorities will decide on," Caborn told The Times.

"I have said time and again that players in these positions have a great responsibility to set a good example."

FA rules state that retrospective action cannot be taken if punishment is meted out on the day, although the case involving Ben Thatcher and Pedro Mendes proved they will act in exceptional circumstances.

This new trend could put us in a strong position. Any know the numbers of the big cat keepers at Twycross Zoo?.

They should be able to provide us with a bit of pace and bite on the wing and sure as Hell, Hughes would pass and move bloody quick if we had a Bengal tiger on his outside.:whistle::D

PS: what the hell is wrong with the clickable smilies' show all? Don't they work Mondays?

A driver won an appeal this week cos he said sorry. What about if Defoe's prepared to regurgitate?:):)

What the hell was running through his mind? It wouldn't even cross most of our minds to bite somebody... maybe he's a cannibal :pinch:

His manager had clearly warned him he'd be dropped if he didn't get his teeth into things.
