Ray- Posted 16 November 2006 Posted 16 November 2006 , I don't mind a bit of SPL but that thread just shows how up your own arse and deluded you lot really are. The thing is, that thread originated from comments on here, which suggested that some Leicester fans are, as you put it, "up your own arse and deluded".
Ray- Posted 16 November 2006 Posted 16 November 2006 Errrr.... From reading that thread, I understand that a couple of posters believe that Charlton, Wigan, Reading, Middlesbrough and a few other premiership teams would struggle in the SPL. I know it's a Hibs forum and you might expect a certain amount of bias... but any of those would walk to 3rd or 4th in the SPL at WORST in my opinion. No,what they suggested was that the football they produced was of the boring variety, which is the case with much of the Championship. A great deal of the reason for this is the cost of failure, their is so much money in the premiership, that club chairmen have a much larger reason for the championship clubs to attain that status. The pressure has led to this, don't lose at all costs mentality, which leads to the boring football on offer, in the lower reaches of the EPL & Championship. I bet almost all the foxes fans, who were around in the seventies, yearn for the exciting, relatively pressure free, games from those days. This was a time when all the clubs had star players. The SPL is not as crap as some on here think, teams are having a go at Rangers & Celtic. A recent quote from your old boss, Martin O'Neill, Hibs had the audacity to come to Celtic Park & play us off the park, winning 3-1. But then, SPL clubs don't have the attraction of the 20M plus premiership status, to hinder the desire to go out and entertain & win matches.
Ray- Posted 16 November 2006 Posted 16 November 2006 HAHAHAHA Quote of the year. Yeah ok, would that be Celtic winning it every year? Celtic are running away with the championship this season, so it was a silly comment, if they do win the title, which is almost certain, they will have won it two years on the trot, just like Chelsea has already achieved over the last couple of seasons. Prior to that, Man Utd & Arsenal had won all the titles throughout the nineties & millennium, with the exception of solitary wins by Blackburn & Leeds. Before that Liverpool dominated. The competitive issue comes below Celtic, with around 5/6 clubs, all within 3 points of each other & the possibility of Champions League football.
Foxello Posted 16 November 2006 Posted 16 November 2006 Did'nt Craig Levein once say his old Hearts side could win the Championship? The same one that included Alan Maybury and Mark DeVries?
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 November 2006 Posted 16 November 2006 The thing is, that thread originated from comments on here, which suggested that some Leicester fans are, as you put it, "up your own arse and deluded". I'll be the first to admit dismissing Scottish football completley is something I would struggle to do as someone who attempts to keep up with the game, from time to time it can be entertaining. You have every right to be offended by the comments of some on here RE the SPL. The person who made the original comment does actually talk something resembling sense normally and for that I will respect his opinion on your league even if I disagree with it. Our league is not of a paticularly high standerd but it will still serve up two or three very entertaining matches a week which is something the SPL doesn't do, partly due to the fact that there are much fewer games. Celtic and Rangers would probabley do alright in the prem, possible Hearts and Hibs as well but once you get down to the bottom three teams your looking at League One standerd football IMO. Not that any of this matters just because a few people on here have called the SPL crap there is no need to go off on one in the way you and your fans have claimnig that the EPL is crap and laying into Leicester City.

This thread was posted on that Hibs website & I would suggest, to some people, Leicester fans slagging off the SPL was a bit rich. A lot of the stuff would be surrounding your previous managers, Martin O'Neill, although hugely successful, the style Celtic played certainly didn't win them any friends, ariel, using Sutton & Hartford, backing in, using professionalism to gain free kicks, cheating in any other language, industrial football, rather than the fast flowing exciting type.. Craig Levein was renowned at Hearts for his route one football, I don't know if he used the same sort of tactics at Leicester, although his signings would certainly suggest that to be the case. So I would suggest that a lot of the reason for the hostile replies to this thread, bore relation to the above. I personally have enjoyed watching Leicester play, although this has been in the past. watching the seventies side play the football they did, was a joy & I have found memories of this. I would like to see your team recapture those times & it would be a tremendous bonus if they managed it, in and with, style.
Thracian Posted 16 November 2006 Posted 16 November 2006 With the sort of dross that's being served up in England - and by England - in the name of football just now I think we've got to be careful about called anyone else. I've only watched one Scottish game live - it featured Kilmarnock - and it could have put me off football for life but when I think about Leicester's best players over the years there's a fair few of the top ones ... Davie Gibson, Frank McLintock, Ian King, Gary McAllister and others who were Scottish. In fact, the whole place during our most successful decade under Matt Gillies reverberated with Scottish accents. Even the English lads spoke with a Scottish lilt because it made them feel more at home!.
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 17 November 2006 Posted 17 November 2006 One thing that does shit me about people slagging off SPL for its 'monotony' is the fact that they need look no further than the EPL for such monotony. I don't go out of my way at all to watch EPL matches because most of the time you can predict the outcome before kick off. The last EPL game I really enjoyed was Reading v Man Utd. Championship football is a packet full of surprises. It's the only league I watch these days apart from the A-League and the occasional SPL match. Also, just a bitch now... Teams like Chelsea have talented footballers, but a lot of them are panzies and I doubt they could stand up to Championship grade football. What's that Chelsea? Reading players injured your men? TOUGH SHIT.
