Players good enougth to play at the top end of the Championship...

Kisnorbo.

Hume.

[big gap]

Stearman (when he's playing in position).

Williams (when fit and not lazy).

[another big gap]

Porter (too young to tell, but he's got talent).

Weso

Tiatto (he's not all bad and there's been plenty worse than him this season).

Right now - because there are others who could be moulded to that standard:

PORTER - his quick and consistently reliable close control, his ability to pass and move, his balance and his comfort anywhere on the field and his natural willingness and ability to work would make him the more comfortable the better the people he plays with - and probably the more adventurous. He would also have more opportunity to show his range of passing because people around him would make better runs. Premiership no problem.

HUME - he's getting frustrated now because he's getting more tightly marked and it is important for Kelly to get more people in and around the box to help him - like Andy King/ Gareth Williams/ Louis Dodds. Not instead of Hammond, Porter and Hughes but as well, apart from whichever one was left on the bench. But Hume has excellent ability to come from deep and pick a shot. Top end of this League only though. No higher.

WILLIAMS - fine in this League. Good range of passing and makes himself available to others. can even get in the mood to shoot but is sadly not a natural marksman. Couldn't see him good enough for the Premiership.

DODDS - a better all-round footballer than Fryatt. Quite capable in the air, shooting from distance, shooting from shorter ranges, links well with others, fetches the ball from deep, takes and bends free kicks, passes accurately and economically, invariably looks fit for the job. His tendency not to be noticed apart from when he's scoring is a drawback because he's a bit Allan Clarke-ish but, as Kelly says, he's a natural finisher.

Definitely good enough for this League if he finds a boxx who believes in him. Fryatt, for me. is much too limited.

HAMMOND - I would always want this guy in my top-six chasing squad because of his speed and the disruption he can cause to any defence. If I had better, more reliable strikers, I could use Hammond sparingly but regularly. Capable of being effective against anyone in this League but not the Premiership.

I tell you - he's old...the man must be on those drugs they give old people. Old People Drugs, I think they're called. Yea, that'll be it.

Are you real?? Elvis Hammond? He who whenever he shoots it hits the corner flag or row ZZ? He's terrible. I'd rather have Logan up front, hell, i'd rather have De Vries up front.

Possibly agree with that. None of the current mob are in Lennon or Izzet's class obviously. All things are relative though, which makes Hume look like a worldbeater when he's standing next to Pelvis Hammond.

Be nice to give Kisnorbo and Hume a couple of quality midfielders with Mandy's money to see how they shape up in comparison. I dream...

I used to think Kisnorbo might have some Premiership potential but on watching him more closely he's woefully short right now.

Why he's even allowed to take free kicks Heaven only knows. He just doesn't have the technique from what I can see.

Oh yes, he's brave and determined alright and seems to have the stamina. But he's not especially quick and Premiership players would feed on him if he carried on passing like he does.

It not just occasionally either. In fact it's a toss up between who's worst at passing out of McCarthy and Kisnorbo.

Our defence has been conceding two-to-four goals a game far too frequently of late and Kisnorbo's was the worst record of all our central defenders which is hardly an advert for the guy.

Today wouldn't have helped his reputation either.

I wouldn't play him as an out-and-out striker - his goals record has never been good enough for that role.
