The OS:

Duo Here For The Long-Term

Alan Maybury and Mark de Vries began a new era at Leicester City when they signed three-year contracts with the club on Wednesday.

Craig Levein wasted no time in securing the services of the Hearts duo after the transfer window opened on New Year's Day.

Levein has gone on record stating he is here with a long-term plan as he looks to steady the ship at the club after a period of instability.

And his first acquisitions would lend themselves to that blueprint after they signed contracts that will keep them at the Walkers Stadium to the end of the 2007-2008 campaign.

Maybury, who has tasted the English game during spells with Leeds United, Crewe and Reading, said: "We are not a short-term fix.

"The boss is trying to build something here as he did at Hearts and it is going to be good to be part of it.

"The move all happened so fast but I am looking forward to it.

"I know about English football from my time at Leeds and getting back to it is a factor, but also the fact that it is for a manager I know well.

"I know the coaches, Peter Houston and Kenny Black, as well and it is important to play for people who have confidence in your ability and like your style of play."

Meanwhile, de Vries confirmed that the chance to play under Levein once again had a major bearing on his decision to move south.

He added: "I was not too far from giving up the game because, after I went back to Holland from French football, I was without a club for six months. But a friend got me back in the game.

"Then Hearts took me and I had a good first two seasons there. Now I am hoping I can do as well here.

"Our aim is to bring success to Leicester and try to get them back into the Premiership."

The duo will be unveiled at a press conference at the Walkers Stadium on Thursday afternoon and are eligible to play in Saturday's FA Cup tie against Blackpool

Good luck to the guys, I hope they have long, successful careers here at City.

It would appear that MDV asked Neil Lennon for his views on LCFC before signing;

De Vries Phones A Friend

Mark de Vries says he bent the ear of a former Leicester City star before plumping on the move from Hearts to the Walkers Stadium.

The 29-year-old striker made the switch south on Thursday after agreeing a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Championship side.

De Vries admitted that he had been keen to team up with former Hearts boss Craig Levein once again when he heard of Leicester's interest on Sunday evening.

But that wasn't before he put in a check call to a Foxes favourite who is currently plying his trade north of the border.

He said: "I spoke to Neil Lennon before I made the move and he had nothing but good things to say about the club. He told me about the good times he had there and said it would be a great move for me.

"I first found out about Leicester's interest when I spoke to my agent after the game against Hibs.

"I had worked with Craig Levein at Hearts for two-and-a-half-years and he had always been good to me. I wanted the chance to work with him again.

"Of course it was a big decision to leave Hearts because I really enjoyed my time there. But in the end it had to be Leicester.

"I suppose you could say that I am an English style centre forward. I was certainly suited to the way the game was played in Scotland and I hope that continues down here.

"When I went to Hearts I got the right feelings when I was looking around the place. I had those same feelings when I looked around the Walkers Stadium so hopefully my intuition will prove right again. The stadium is unbelievable.

"Alan Maybury is the sort of player that doesn't like to lose and one that you wouldn't like to play against. I am always glad that I don't have to play against him.

"He never gives up and is a good team player. He can play at both left and right back. Give him a job and he will do it for you.

"I know David Connolly from his time over in Holland. He used to play with my best friend in the Excelsior Rotterdam team. So I have seen him a couple of times and he is a good player. I'm looking forward to playing next to him."

De Vries scored four goals in his home debut for Hearts against bitter rivals Hibs - but said he would be happy just to take one goal this weekend.

He added: "I scored four goals on my home debut for Hearts against Hibs - but don't expect that on Saturday if I play! It was a great way to start my career and I must say it helped me during my time there. I think I would just be happy to get on the pitch for the team - that's my first aim."

Looking forward to seeing how these two do because not many of us have a clue of their abilities, I trust Levein though and hopefully Maybury and De Vries will become fans favorites.
