Jonesy_rules Posted 7 January 2005 Posted 7 January 2005 it seems that craig is trying to build the hearts team down here, and it won't work! ok, so de vries has 31 goals in 2seasons, it's not fantastic, considering that it's in scotland where they have the two BIG clubs and then the rest are of the same standard! Barton - Your opinion is wright, heath shouldn't be anywhere near the first team, mine is they both support the club, they both want to do well for the club and they both wear their heart on their sleeve! Wright has a fiery temper, it's what we need, a bit of a fight, espically upfront where connolly and scowy aren't doing the business!

Jonesy you and I both love the club and are passionate about it that doesn't mean Craig Levein should play us. The question you have to ask is why has Tommy Wright never had a run at the first team? Why have successive managers not put him in? As for rebuilding the Hearts team, why wouldn't that work? You tell me one Championship side that could compete against either of the Old Scum? You tell me one Championship side that could go in to Europe and win in Bordeaux? Or compete against Feyenoord, Schalke or even beat Basel (you know the team that beat both Liverpool and Celtic drew with Man Utd). The media tend to ridicule Scottish football but in recent times the English elite haven't coped too well up there. If you want a team full of Wright, Heath, Logan, O'Grady etc then fine but you'll be watching them in League 1. I want to watch a team who will win games and have players in it who are good enough to win games and if there are some of our youth in there great if not then I am sure there will be in a few years. Levein is now getting the chance to build his side and already people are questioning his signings.

He's signed two players from there and it makes sense to me. We are desperate for a new striker and MDV fits the bill, not so long ago Sporting Lisbon were after him. Levein knows what MDV is like and therefore it shortens the gamble if you have worked with a player in the past and they've been a success there. 31 goals isn't bad, if he averages a goal every other game near abouts then i'll settle for that. As for Maybury he is rated as Hearts most consistent player and has ousted Stephen Carr, Steve Finnan and Gary Kelly from the right back spot for Ireland on numerous occasions. So I don't see what's the problem in signing him, he sounds a quality player. Martin O'Neill signed 2 players from his Leicester team and there was talk of him trying to sign Stan Collymore, Muzzy Izzet and Matt Elliott infact I have it on good authority that he enquired about all 3 of them, it wasn't just paper talk. There isn't a problem with signing players you've previously had, what Levein needs to do though is make sure he gets the right players. Not rush in to making signings like Adams did. Whoever he signs i've got confidence in him that he'll get the best out of them. Heath is shit, end of story.
Jonesy_rules Posted 7 January 2005 Posted 7 January 2005 Barton whilst i see where you are coming from, i still wouldn't want the hearts team rebuilt down here, it's been proven over time that the scottish players we bring in, don't play well! Yes i no whom all those teams you mentioned are, however, on any given day, anyone can beat anyone! For example we could go and play the likes of the Milans, Real's or Monaco and win, due to the way the team are prepared before! As for craig playing either me or you, i think he should, i'll go get my boats! B)

Go back to the early days and you've got Gary McCallister, Ally Mauchlen Go forward a few years and you've got Callum Davidson, Billy McKinlay, Paul Dickov, Gareth Williams The only bad one I can think of is Scott Gemmill. Peter Canero has looked the part when he plays, so your remark about scottish players is wrong dude.

Jonesy_rules Posted 7 January 2005 Posted 7 January 2005 i'll be on the trent first, destory the city ground, hence gettin my BOATS, then i'll come back and get my BOOTS and score from my RB postition to win us the game!
Scow Posted 7 January 2005 Posted 7 January 2005 Well, MDV and Maybury are not Scottish anyway, they've just come from a Scottish team.
Ric Flair Posted 7 January 2005 Posted 7 January 2005 Well, MDV and Maybury are not Scottish anyway, they've just come from a Scottish team. 52748 Exactly! That's pissed on all our fires. To be honest, i'm quite excited at watching MDV. If you go on to the foxes trust website and read the article on MDV you'll be impressed.

allybx Posted 7 January 2005 Posted 7 January 2005 Hi folks.I have seen Wilkie playing on a number of occations and i must say he's a bit of a carthorse. And also prone to scoring the odd own goal or two. Can't think why CL would like to sign him .MAKE A NOIZE .THE GORGIE BOYS .ARE GOING TO EUROPE.
Ricey Posted 7 January 2005 Posted 7 January 2005 We MUST bring in younger players to the first team this season and I think now is the perfect time as they could still have an effect on our season. Like many on here I want to see Stearman and Dawson included more, possibly Wright aswell but I doubt he will with Connolly, De Vries, Dublin and Scowcroft here.

As for CL trying to build Hearts at Leicester, well he hasnt got the best youth policy in the country that he enjoyed with us has he? If previous regimes didnt invest in a youth policy then you cant bring in what isnt there ! I see he's going for the long ball/hoof policy he employed with us, just hope DeVries does it for you as he's looked pretty lacklustre for us this season apart from Braga away when he was pumped full of drugs to get him through the game. Also glad to see someone poured water on the "no more Scots, they're crap" arguement, didnt realise how many had turned out for you over the years- Mike Galloway, now there was a Jambo legend, best header of a ball to wear maroon!
davieG Posted 7 January 2005 Posted 7 January 2005 - Mike Galloway, now there was a Jambo legend, best header of a ball to wear maroon! Great mates with Duncan Ferguson I believe. He is fondly remembered down here and got a terrific welcome when he visited us after his horrific accident. Yes we've had some great Scottish players down here over the years my personal favourite being wee Davie Gibson, I also have great memories of Jackie Sinclair and Bobby Roberts, a golden era of quality football for LCFC. Not forgetting our youthful period under Jock Wallace of course. I personally wouldn't mind a few more Jocks playing for us as you can pretty well guarantee a bit of passion.

What do you think of your 2 new Hearts aquisitions ?
BartonFox Posted 7 January 2005 Posted 7 January 2005 That Everton game was the day I lost any respect fro Duncan Ferguson. What an absolute b'std of a thing to come out with, Galloway took the p*ss out of him all game then followed him off the park when he got red carded. As for the 2 newbies, they'll do for starters.
Ash Posted 8 January 2005 Posted 8 January 2005 I've watched this guy once before , and i was impressed . He is a good defender that will score goal's aswell ..... Get him CL !
Scow Posted 9 January 2005 Posted 9 January 2005 I've seen him play a few times - If you want a bigger, clumbsy version of Heath, then Wilkie's your man.
weegie jambo Posted 9 January 2005 Posted 9 January 2005 I've seen him play a few times - If you want a bigger, clumbsy version of Heath, then Wilkie's your man. 53074 Watched highlights of Hibs v Dundee cup game last night and Wilkie played well against a rampant youthfull Hibs team dispite a 2-0 ( going on 6-0) defeat. In a post match interview admitted there was transfer speculation but said he plans to stay to the end of the season. Given that Dundee are in a mess and look like going down they'll want to hang on to any experienced players to stop the slide to Div 1. If you want some good youthfull strikers you should check the Hibee kids out, but they're gonna cost big money I reckon.
Gala Foxes Posted 9 January 2005 Posted 9 January 2005 I have seen Lee Wilkie on several occasions playing for Dundee against Hibs (most recently yesterday) and turning out (not playing) for Scotland. He is big and as a result is good in the air but he is a carthorse on the ground - yesterday he was kneeing balls clear at Easter Road. I don't think he is Scottish SPL class let alone Coca Cola Championship let alone Premiership where City are meant to be heading. Lets hope we miss out on this one !
