Tax by the mile for drivers.

Vote Tory.

What really irritates me is the way they stifle debate by making out anyone who thinks taxes should not be increased overall is anti environment. I have no problem with increasnig tax on higher polluting cars etc, but you have to reduce it on efficient cars to net out to zero, otherwise you have no credibility, and are simly using excuses to increase tax.

More to the point, there is already a tax which means you pay more if you drive more, and pay more if you have a less efficient car. It's called Fuel Duty, and it's already way higher in the UK than just about anywhere on earth, yet we have appalling public transport provision. The argument than we need to tax first to pay for investmend just doesn't cut it anymore. Enough if enough.

Lets gloss over your first point with a simple screw the Tories statement and move on to the meat...

VED is the portion of taxation raised that goes towards the maintenance of the highways...therefore it is not representative of usage. Taxation on fuel goes directly to the coffers of the Chancellor (as it did in the days of the evil blood sucking Thatcher).

Don't understand the relevance of the third. The Tories screwed up the public transportation system and Labour failed to repair it - no one comes out of a transport debate smelling of anything other than diesel mixed with farm effluent.
