Rincewind Posted 16 January 2007 Posted 16 January 2007 Who knows about setting this up. I've tried many different ways but always get the server not recognised error. My main problem is knowing what to put in on the outgoing POP3 and incoming SMPT boxes This is what I did tools - accounts- add display name ???? next email address [email protected] POP3 incoming mail SMPT outgoing mail next email password
Rincewind Posted 16 January 2007 Author Posted 16 January 2007 yes I put that underneath the thread title. I want to use it for my hotmail addresses as well. I had it set up before but forget how I done it. It may have been done for me.

Rincewind Posted 16 January 2007 Author Posted 16 January 2007 cheers. it worked with my ntl account but not hotmail. got two hotmail and I never look at one which I try to use for buisness type emails. cant send an email to a prospective employer with nightguard on. I often forget my password and sign in name to my not often used sites. At least I can use my ntl for the formal emails now. I was typing in the pop3 and smtp in capital letters because thats how it was on the page. Also adding the .com on the second part. Only thing is when I open OE messenger opens and I get alerts evertime somebody signs in. Will have to change my settings now.

I don't think you can use hotmail addresses in Outlook unless you can find a way to redirect them in hotmail, not something i've been able to do. If you use google mail you have the option of redirecting them to outlook.
davieG Posted 16 January 2007 Posted 16 January 2007 What about yahoo mail? Don't know I've never used it. Googlemail is pretty good though.
Steven Posted 16 January 2007 Posted 16 January 2007 What about yahoo mail? I think Outlook struggles with HTML based email such as Yahoo mail or Hotmail or any other.
Rincewind Posted 16 January 2007 Author Posted 16 January 2007 Yeah just found out. thought it was because the trusted site wasn't set up on the sign in page but I got the unable to do sign. Thought I saw where it can be set for HTML THOUGH. Thats for another time.

Hotmail works fine When you add your account just put in your display name, then your Hotmail address, and then at the next part select "HTTP" and "Hotmail". That way it does all the settings for you and you just have to put in your password so it can download the emails. You can also select MSN there, or Other. For Other you have to sort it out yourself
Rincewind Posted 17 January 2007 Author Posted 17 January 2007 I put http in ok but its still got pop3 in the properties and cannot be deleted. Will the port settings have to be changed? 110 and 26 at the moment.

I don't know where you're getting these from, once you select HTTP and Hotmail the "Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server" box should have a Hotmail type address in the box and then you just click next and stick in your Login details and then click next and finish. Shouldn't have to do Port settings for Hotmail.
