Joe. Posted 26 January 2007 Posted 26 January 2007 I thought that Johansson's policies were so much better... <_< Here
vanfox12 Posted 26 January 2007 Posted 26 January 2007 I Think the plan to reduce the number of clubs in the Champions league is actually a good idea. Why should 4 teams be in it anyway! In fact i'd have gone further and reduced it to just League Champions and Runners up.

lildave3 Posted 26 January 2007 Posted 26 January 2007 Why shouldn't 4 teams be in it? It's to allow smaller countries to have more representation, which in turn provides them with more money, which makes better teams, which makes better worldwide competition. That's why
dandannieldanok Posted 26 January 2007 Posted 26 January 2007 This is bad news. The Champions League Group stage is already a farce with teams like Levski Sofia cluttering it up. Lessening the number of teams from countries like England and Spain will lower the quality of the competition significantly.
lcfc_jme Posted 27 January 2007 Posted 27 January 2007 Hmmm this could prove to be very bad for top league clubs across Europe, though I won't pass judgement on his appointment until I see evidence of his policies taking effect one way or another.
lookwhaticando Posted 27 January 2007 Posted 27 January 2007 I couldn't give a fook about the Champions League anyway. It's been devalued for years, it's not a genuine Champions league because so many teams are in it. Football's governing bodies piss me off. FIFA is run by the moron Blatter, and his constant, idiotic meddling. His public backing of Platini was just idiotic - it's no business of his, so STFU and go away you thick willy puller. UEFA has hardly shrouded itself in glory either. As for the national associations... the FA have just lost the plot completely, run by incompetents. The Champions League should be renamed to reflect it's true status as more of a super-cup, Champions is not suitable terminology for this competition. Countries like Spain and England get four teams because even the fourth place team could walk a country's league in which only the top team gets qualified - somewhere like Belgium. Half the problem with football today is the number of pointless shitty matches. Make more shit teams qualify for the right to play against the big boys. Andorra should qualify against the likes of Luxembourg, Lichtenstein, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Vatican City for example. The best of the group can then play against a big team and get demolished 5-0. I have no interest in England games unless we play a proper side in a proper competition. Friendlies against nobody countries don't interest me. And since the national side is so hopeless, I'm not all that bothered when we play anyone properly! Cut the crap, just play the proper games. That applies to Champions League as much as Internationals.
MC Prussian Posted 27 January 2007 Posted 27 January 2007 It's a game of kings and pawns. And Platini is Blatter's servant.

In fact i'd have gone further and reduced it to just League Champions and Runners up. Its all about money these days. Imagine if Liverpool got knocked out in the 1st round KO stage, that would ruin their finances for a season! MAKE IT KO AGAIN MICHEL AND ONLY ALLOW THE CHAMPIONS IN!
The People's Hero Posted 27 January 2007 Posted 27 January 2007 CL should be just Champs or Champs and Runners up. If clubs want to be in it so much, they have to strive to deserve it, not just have a fooking hissy fit when they dont make it.

So you think it's a good idea to replace teams like Inter, Arsenal and Seville with teams like Graz AK, Honved and Xanthi do you?
lookwhaticando Posted 27 January 2007 Posted 27 January 2007 So you think it's a good idea to replace teams like Inter, Arsenal and Seville with teams like Graz AK, Honved and Xanthi do you? As I said, I'd make the shit teams qualify... ... including Arsenal. ;) After all, Arsenal don't have a cat in hells chance.

Did anyone see Ashley Coles response to it when interviewed on telly on Friday. What a Muppet.
vanfox12 Posted 28 January 2007 Posted 28 January 2007 So you think it's a good idea to replace teams like Inter, Arsenal and Seville with teams like Graz AK, Honved and Xanthi do you? Lets kick the lower league and non league clubs out of the FA Cup then?
lookwhaticando Posted 28 January 2007 Posted 28 January 2007 Lets kick the lower league and non league clubs out of the FA Cup then? The FA cup is open to all clubs in England, always has been always will be. The "Champions League" isn't open to all clubs. It's open to a select few at the top of their domestic game - that's why it's called Champions League. Besides, the crap small clubs in the FA Cup don't get a chance to play a bigger club until the third round proper - they have to pass through two other proper rounds and countless qualifying rounds first. Your example is flawed and irrelevant.
Head Honcho Posted 29 January 2007 Posted 29 January 2007 As I said, I'd make the shit teams qualify... ... including Arsenal. ;) After all, Arsenal don't have a cat in hells chance. I think the way it is now is just about right. Even down to the 3rd place teams going into the uefa cup draw, I don't like to see this happen but it does prevent the final round of group game becoming farcical. Platini is playing politics with football for his own gain and this should not be allowed to happen! He'll be wanting a united British team next
act smiley Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 The thing with limiting the number of CL places is that you have to consider the knock-on financial situations. It'd really only reduce the Big-4 to a Big-3 and give smaller nations a far less interesting title race by pumping the big sides with more money. Personally, I'd like to see no automatic qualifying and a large expansion in the second and third qualifying rounds - increasing the chances of small sides grabbing a big game would help them, it wouldn't hurt the overall quality of the tournament as they'd probably get knocked out. I'd also like to see the money given out flat-rate, not based on the club's nation's TV ratings. Of course that would bring the whole knock-on financial issues back into things, if you're not too careful you'd end up with teams in smaller leagues walking all over them, like Rosenborg for example. and how the tarting hell is an extra linesman supposed to help? Goal-line technology is worth adding, cameras for penalties would be debatable but personally I think best done without, but an extra linesman may have an extra set of eyes but they'd have an extra set of opinions to go with em - how often do we see refs and linesman not having the same opinion of an incident anyway, it'd only get awkward.
