As a Cypriot myself (through parentage) but England born, I can see both sides of Cyprus and smile! The locals all love the money generated over there as everyone cashes in. One uncle has a bloody shop now in his yard as its next to the tourists and sells everything legal and a mates mum has become a cab driver and earns great money and her driving skills resemble Mr Magoo.

Yeah they are upset about Napa as the place "eh muvrisse" as they say (its turned black....a lovely racist bunch the locals are!) but they dont complain when there sons (and loads of them my family) make killings from the eateries and clubs/pubs.

I own a house in Dhali which is in between Nicosia and Larnaca and you dont see any tourists out in the villages so the locals dont complain.

My advice to anyone going to Cyprus is to not book accomodation from here but to land in cyprus, buy a local paper and its usually full of apartments and houses available for about £200 a month. Ive heard horror stories of people booking from here and spending £1000 for two weeks in a house which is crazy. Also, avoid Nicosia as its too built up and hot in the summer and goes upto 45c. Paphos is really quiet so I wouldnt go there unless you are over 50! Stay in Larnaca as its busy with some great restaurants and outdoor bars and a great beach. Its a great place and thats why this year I head for the US lol!! Take advantage of the weak dollar!!!!!!

BTW best for deals for flights to Cyprus/Greece is Cyplon on 0208 348 9142. A ticket is about £250 for 2 weeks in August if you pre-book.

Thats exactly what i was trying to say, fair enough though, you either like it or you dont (napa). I like it, obviously depends where you stay. There are some good bars on the edge of the square which are really cheap.

Im actually not the "chav" type who sings songs 35 times bla bla, i prefer a nice bike ride down nissi avenue for my full english in the morning

Top place Cyprus, top people too.

To add to what youve said, i think Protarus is a nice place, close to Ayia Napa if you fancy a night out, I guess its like Larnaca really - ive never stayed in Protarus but ive been there a few times.

lol. Nothing exciting unfortunately apart from food and a load of stuff for tourists. The best one is the Cyprus backmannon set. Around the corner from his house is a Kafeneon (basically out door cafes where all the blokes hang out drinking, eating, gambling and playing backmannon) and they sell this backmannon set for 6 Cyprioy pounds. He sold about 20 last year for £10 each and his supplier was the bloody cafe!

I must admit the locals have become to over the top when it comes to money as they see tourists as just a way of making big money. Greed is setting in bigtime.

That is a common plight. I have seen that happen in Prague over the years... :(

even the cheapflights websites like easyjet etc really arent cheap anymore......

this is annoying as hell

If you book early you can't beat them for prices but if you book late they are usually more expensive then BA!

I usually book them as soon as they are available to book(usually 6-9 months before travel) For instance you can grab a return flight to Paris in August for £20 but book it for tomorrow it'll probably be £60-100.

Which is great for you ... but some people (due to their jobs or personal circumstances) just cannot book that far in advance, hence they pay over the odds

Your paying more because it's a scheduled flight!

If you're able to book a charter flight you'll get it much cheaper, it's also worth checking out the package holiday price as these are bizarrely sometimes cheaper then flight only-you don't have to take up their offer of accomodation if you already have somewhere to stay.

Here are some good sights

As someone posted earlier Skyscanner is a very good one.
