Junior "Popular" Lewis

DISGUSTED

Hull City manager Peter Taylor today said he was disgusted by the behaviour of fans who jeered midfielder Junior Lewis in Saturday's 2-2 draw against Peterborough.

Lewis replaced Nick Barmby for the last 12 minutes and was booed every time he touched the ball.

The draw saw Tigers knocked off the top of League One on goal difference - and put an end to their eight-match winning streak, two short of the club record.

Taylor said:. "I am absolutely disgusted. It was unforgivable. No professional footballer deserves that. The people responsible are not my idea of football supporters.

"If they are going to do that then I hope they don't come any more. They should go to the pub instead.

"The problem is, they all think they are judges. They all think they are managers. Still, they used to boo Damian Delaney.

"Junior was not the reason we didn't win on Saturday. Some people have short memories because the last time he played, he earned us three cracking points at Stockport."

Taylor was backed by chairman Adam Pearson who said the individuals involved had no place at the club.

He told the Mail: "I never thought I would hear our supporters booing one of our players, particular in light of the season we are enjoying.

"It was unbelievable. What these people are trying to achieve is beyond me. We don't want them at this club.

"Everyone just needs to step back and take a reality check. We are sitting near the top of the league. We're five points clear of the third-placed club. We're having a great season and yet this type of thing happens.

"Saturday's result was disappointing but people must learn to accept we will not win every game.

"They should also remember Junior's key involvement in helping us to promotion last season."

Lewis rarely speaks to the media and left the KC Stadium without comment but team-mate Stuart Green said: "Everyone is upset. He's a Hull City player. He wears a Hull shirt with pride. He wants to play for the club and people should respect that."

Lewis joined City on loan last season and was a key figure in their promotion-winning campaign after linking up with Taylor for the third time in his career.

He played in 12 of the final 13 games of the season and was snapped up on a free transfer last summer. He's appeared in 26 of City's 32 games this season although he hasn't been a regular

Makes me laugh how they booed Lewis and Delaney :D

However Taylor is right, they shouldn't boo him. They have every right to think he is crap (because he is) however booing is not the way to vent their feelings for a individual player because he isn't very good.

Poor Junior...he really does try the lad..

I do feel for him, but he's lucky he's even got the chance to play at Hull nevermind Leicester..

Having said that I don't condone that kind of abuse targeted towarcds a player...

How about a team?

I guess the difference is between a player consistently playing below his capability and a player seriously out his depth. The first you can blame the player and maybe boo him if that is your wont; the second is the manager's fault and you should boo the manager.

The dilemma the Hull fans have is that it would be extremely ungracious if not out right stupid for them to boo Taylor.

I guess we didn't have that problem for most of his tenure at LCFC. ;)

Well having met the arrogant son of a b*tch, that makes me quite pleased to hear he got such a reaction.

Talentless arrogant gimp of the highest order.

I feel sorry for Junior - fans should recognise that he simply doesn't have the talent to be a professional footballer. Unless he has been a lazy arse at Hull and constistently looks like he doesn't give a toss, he doesn't deserve to be booed for every touch. Taylor is the one that brought him to the club and continues to play him when he is out of his depth...so Taylor should be criticised.

Correct, he should be happy he even made it as a professional footballer and has a kind of sugar daddy in Taylor who keeps taking Junior with him to every club he goes to. I only feel sorry for the treatment he gets. I can't feel sorry for his luck or the embarrasment he must suffer when he realises he's in way over his head...
