tbf Posted 6 March 2007 Posted 6 March 2007 Has anyone else been starting to think that games between clubs in the middle to bottom of the premiership are getting really dull. I'd rather watch championship football, even if it isn't Leicester. (Ignore Spurs West Ham in this comment.)
The People's Hero Posted 6 March 2007 Posted 6 March 2007 Sounds like a load of bollocks to me. Sure the game is generally more cautious than it used to be... but that Spurs vs West Ham game the other day was great. I love watching Arsenal or Man United in full flow. To say you'd rather watch Championship astounded me to be honest. The standard of football is absolutely dire in this division.
tbf Posted 6 March 2007 Author Posted 6 March 2007 I did say clubs in the middle to the bottom of the premiership, and specifically excluded the spurs west ham game.
Sods Posted 6 March 2007 Posted 6 March 2007 I did say clubs in the middle to the bottom of the premiership, and specifically excluded the spurs west ham game. but you would rather watch luton v barnsley on a tuesday night then Man City v Charlton
Flexx Posted 6 March 2007 Posted 6 March 2007 The middle - bottom games are probably the most exciting. The big games in the Prem are too cautious (because neither team can afford to concede). They usually end up being 0-0 or 1-0 so i would say games outside of the top 4 are the best tbh.
Joe. Posted 6 March 2007 Posted 6 March 2007 I enjoy watching Premiership games and no I don't think the standard has declined. Of course you're bound to get the odd boring match but there isn't that many, especially in the mid-table areas more than others I think. As for watching Championship football instead, you must be joking? It's absolutely dire watching a Championship game on Sky. Awful football, empty stadiums and no atmosphere.
Spee-d Posted 6 March 2007 Posted 6 March 2007 Maybe saying you'd rather watch Championship football is a bit ott, not as much quality. However for sheer excitement, Championship is the best league to watch.

Spee-d Posted 6 March 2007 Posted 6 March 2007 Well thats probably because they are the only games where you get a good atmosphere. In terms of matches, Championship is more open. premiership is too predictable nowadays.

The Reverend Posted 6 March 2007 Posted 6 March 2007 You might like to check. a) The time I posted my response. b) The time you edited your post in a vain, desperate effort to make it worthwhile. He's back Anyway, i wouldnt say the games are poor (middle to bottom of the prem). They arent bad and to say youd rather watch Champo football instead is interesting. The Championship is pretty poor although i do understand what your saying. But the Prem match it is for me please!
lildave3 Posted 6 March 2007 Posted 6 March 2007 I'd say the standard of the Championship has improved so much that it makes the Premiership look less appealing. I still enjoy watching the Premiership the same as i always have done, if not more.
Jay Posted 6 March 2007 Posted 6 March 2007 but you would rather watch luton v barnsley on a tuesday night then Man City v Charlton That's a bad example imo I probably would rather watch Luton Barnsley they are both having a go at the minute letting in a few scoring a few could be a good game!!
tbf Posted 6 March 2007 Author Posted 6 March 2007 You might like to check. a) The time I posted my response. b) The time you edited your post in a vain, desperate effort to make it worthwhile. i edited because i made a typo (swapped "if if it's not leicester" for "even if it's not leicester", not because i changed the content. Just to say that quality doesn't equal excitement, two excellent defences can lead to a boring game, whereas two shit defences can lead to game full of opportunities.
Glen_lcfc Posted 6 March 2007 Posted 6 March 2007 On a slightly seperate note - although it may be connected. Why do team like Blackburn/Bolton/Middlesbourgh/Wigan get misrable attendances week in week out. I mean Bolton are going for a champions league spot and cannot mange over 17k most games?
Nationwider Posted 6 March 2007 Posted 6 March 2007 On a slightly seperate note - although it may be connected. Why do team like Blackburn/Bolton/Middlesbourgh/Wigan get misrable attendances week in week out. I mean Bolton are going for a champions league spot and cannot mange over 17k most games? Middlesbrough is in a fairly depressed part of the country, economy-wise. Plenty of people from Teesside support Leeds, NUFC or SAFC as well. Smoggies tend to spend their disposable ink on contraband ciggies and heroin. Wigan is Rubgy League territory and always has been. Bolton - like Boro, they suffer from bigger clubs (in the Grater Manchester and Mersey areas) attracting more support. The football output is often not-appealing on the eye either (although this is a matter of opinion). Blackburn is a sh*thole, basically. Sorry if you're from there, anyone - but it is. They haven't had big support for years. Witness the pathetic rabble they took to Wembley against us in 91/92. Add to this, rising interest rates and rising inflation putting the pinch on the cost of living, and spiralling ticket costs, together with three of those clubs having been involved in extra UEFA Cup matches this or last season - and you get a situation where there just aren't enough people who can afford to attend matches in those towns. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with the relative success of those clubs. They just can't get any more through the gates in the current climate.
lookwhaticando Posted 7 March 2007 Posted 7 March 2007 Nationwider has officially won this thread. You may all leave now, sermon over.
Geo V Posted 7 March 2007 Posted 7 March 2007 Has anyone else been starting to think that games between clubs in the middle to bottom of the premiership are getting really dull. I'd rather watch championship football, even if it isn't Leicester. (Ignore Spurs West Ham in this comment.) Im split on this one. IMO far too many teams have adopted this 5 midfield plan like Everton, Bolton and Arsenal and that sometimes makes games more compact and less lively. However, when two teams play 442 and go for it you do get games like the West Ham-Spurs game. We also seem to have less poor players at the top level than we did a few years ago which has bridged the gap and the hope for us all is that promoted teams seem to be coming up and being competitive. Arguably maybe there havent been that many great games this season as there used to be but I still wouldnt swap the Premiership for any other league in the world although La Liga is also a fantastic watch.
Jordan Posted 7 March 2007 Posted 7 March 2007 I guess those spots in the Intertoto Cup just don't mean as much as they used to for some teams...
