1) Awesome first half from Newcastle.

2) Channel 5 - surprisingly good at football coverage, especially Pat Nevin as studio analyst.

3) Braga's stadium looks amazing!! Looking forward to their game too.

Quite a surprise really, I expected AZ to do better than they've started.

Good result for Newcastle, they should be through now.

Now for Braga/Spurs. :D

:( Don't think so. AZ are certainly capable of winning 2-0 or 3-1 at home. One or two of the Newcastle players were a bit sluggish following up that penalty and it could cost them dear if they don't offer Given enough protection in the away leg.

 Braga's kit makes them look like Arsenal.

Berbatov should have stuck that away. Great skill at the end.

This has the look of a 1982 World Cup match.

lol Bet Spurs love that kit. :P .

And the cliff in the background lol

It's actually supposed to. The Braga owner many many years ago went to see an arsenal game, and was so impressed with the whole occasion he decided to change to an arsenal kit rather than the green they had at the time.

AZ haven't lost at home in Europe for 30 years so I don't think it will be easy at all for Newcastle.

What a quality goal! Great play by Lennon and great finish.

Was a great goal. Beautiful chip from Lennon and once again Keane showed his class. Keane goes up in my estimation every time i see him play.

i was in a bar in newcastle watching the game tonight, it was far too easy for them. quiet where i was due to the price of the pints in said bar but the overall assumption that was it was going to be a walk in the park....and it was. i left on 89 minutes for a taxi so they would have to have been amazing after that to make them look half decent

Which Univeristy of motivational skills did Glenn Roeder ever go to?

Newcastle run riot first half, passing, moving, overlapping, supporting in numbers, getting around the back of the worst defenders you've ever seen and turn around 4-1 up.

And then Roeder gets to have a word, at least one presumes so.

Result? The team is turned off completely and limps the rest of the way to a 4-2 victory.

I wondered when it would happen from the moment the commentator asked Joe Royle what Newcastle should do now they're 3-0 up?.

I described that elsewhere as one of the most moronic questions I've ever heard.

Royle had the right answer. Carry on with what they're doing. It was bloody obvious.

But Roeder clearly had his own ideas and the 15 minutes break was just long enough for him to neuter his team completely.

Just for one half I was reminded of the old Newcastle team under Keegan.

But second half confirmed it was just an illusion.

lol You clearly think AZ Alkmaar are some sort of pub team. They defended like it at times in that first half but van Gaal obviously had a word. A Newcastle team that is average in Premiership terms sticks four goals past a very good Dutch team, full of technical ability and the sort of on-the-ground passing football you crave, and you slag them off for it. Priceless.
