Ah!

It's the Catholics I have beef with mostly... the Anglicans are busy having arguments about homosexuals instead. Harmless.

I'm sure your dad is a shining example of a proper priest... he raised a Leicester City fan, after all.

Wouldn't surprise me.

The Church is the world's largest grouping of organized criminals.

The mafia have nothing on the church.

It's about time someone senior like, oh you know... the Pope perhaps? told his followers to get the fook in line. Filthy bastards the lot of them.

It's gone on for too long already, downright criminality by priests the world over and the Church doesn't seem to care enough to respond.

Marvellous.

Tragic loss, of course... and if it's the priest that's found guilty, I'm willing to set up a sort of vigilante group that goes around the country kneecapping priests so we don't have a repeat.

Mentioning the Mafia and the Catholic Church in the same breath suggests you should read "In God's Name". Cracking book and you still see regular reference to the events talked about, even today.

There's no shame in a Priest porking a young lass or lad.

After all, they're all at it.

"If the FBI's motivating factor for busting down the Koresh compound was child abuse, how come we never see Bradley tanks smashing into Catholic churches?"

Just in the interests of perspective, the man had an affair... he didnt kill the girl! The Catholics are an easy target for some and get beat up more than any other group somtimes, sod it! Why dont i go off on one about the abuse of young boys by Imans in Islamic seminaries... oh right... we're not allowed to do that, becuase... er... its an offensive, generalisation! Some perspective please!

The Priest sounds like the kind of sexual frustrated eejit the doctrine of clerical celebacy leads to (a doctrine only introduced in the tenth century i might add)... but it shouldnt be taken to the extreem of people seeing all catholic priests as pedophiles or just phonies... thats just ignorant and insulting!

In fairness to those that might hold that kind of view, it is something which the Catholic Church has done little to disabuse either by dialogue or deed.

Abso****ingexactly.

When there's a new story every day about some Catholic priest abusing some child somewhere in the world, and the powers that be (the Pope and his cronies) sit on their arses and do or say nothing about such disgraceful behaviour, it's no wonder people like me look at the church in the manner that I do.

Is it not reasonable to expect a supposed moral authority to at least speak out against such downright immoral behaviour?

Immoral is the least of it... it's also illegal. They break moral code and they break the rule of law. Let's not lose sight of that fact.

Can you really blame people like me for being 'ignorant and insulting' towards the church in which immoral, criminal scumbags passing themselves off as priests do such terrible things that arouses absolutely no response whatsoever from the church itself?

It makes me wonder... perhaps since nobody at the top of the Church feels compelled to say anything on the subject, perhaps there's a reason? Skeletons in the cupboard? Or fresh meat, perhaps? Or do they just not give a shit? These rogue priests (the minority, you'd hope) are dragging the name of the church through the shit, and they don't seem to mind? That's seems just a little bit odd to me... there's something amiss.

My understanding is that the Catholic Church condemns such behaviour by a selected few (or so they seem to think) while backing the idea of celibacy as a tenet of "modern" Catholicism.

The theory behind celibacy of the clergy is that this way priests would be unburdened by concerns relating to having a spouse and a family to look after and would be free to dedicate themselves to God and the wellbeing of their parishioners. Alas, in at least some (well-documented) cases (and probably several-to-many more undocumented ones), celibacy has proved to be a bad idea, a burden in its own right, possibly (some might argue) even detracting energy from their pastoral duties (on top of the hurt to selected individuals).
