London_Fox Posted 23 April 2007 Posted 23 April 2007 Eight Man Utd players in the team? Is somebody have a laugh? They have been dominant and as much as it pains me to say have played some great football but that was based on the forward players not defence. The entire back four and the goalkeeper? Cech gets his skull fractured and comes back as good as before...what more does he have to do. Does anyone else find this as bizarre as me?
coale39 Posted 23 April 2007 Posted 23 April 2007 Edwin van der Sar, Gary Neville, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra (all Man Utd); Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Cristiano Ronaldo & Steven Gerrard Didier Drogba & Dimitar Berbatov Ver der sar......not a chance Cech any day

Well it's only because he was our for so long. They couldn't really give it to him to be fair seeing as he missed so much.
Geo V Posted 23 April 2007 Posted 23 April 2007 What a joke! I want to blame the FA or some Man Utd loving idiots like Eamonn Holmes or Angus Deayton but these are nominated by the players FFS!
Bryn Posted 24 April 2007 Posted 24 April 2007 Keeper should be Cech. Baines over Evra. Finnan over Neville. Carragher or Terry over Ferdinand. I can't believe Ferdinand got anywhere near the team when there's Terry and Carragher. Essien over Gerrard. Strike force is spot on.
Joe. Posted 24 April 2007 Posted 24 April 2007 Keeper should be Cech. But Cech was out for months on end It wouldn't really be right to give it to him, regardless of whether he is the best keeper in the world or not.
Bryn Posted 24 April 2007 Posted 24 April 2007 I think so, the man's made about 1 mistake all season. I reckon his average performance per game is better then VDS as well.
Joe. Posted 24 April 2007 Posted 24 April 2007 I think so, the man's made about 1 mistake all season. I reckon his average performance per game is better then VDS as well. I wouldn't argue much with that but it's just the fact that he hasn't played the whole season so he can't really be in the team of the year
Stevosevic Posted 24 April 2007 Posted 24 April 2007 How can the Man utd back five be the defence when they dont even have the best defence in the premiership?
London_Fox Posted 24 April 2007 Author Posted 24 April 2007 The goalkeeper issue was just one of a number really but his comeback is worth the accoladte (think he's got more clean sheets then VDS even though he's played less games. Second only to Reina I think. I just can't see how other players chose the entire Utd back 5 really Makes me wonder about the politics behind it, maybe it was a calculated effort by people to piss Chelsea off, maybe Utd organised some form of lobbying to give themselves a psycological edge (can imagine Ferguson doing that). All conspiracy theory stuff but doesn't make sense to me.
Geo V Posted 25 April 2007 Posted 25 April 2007 I personally would have had Pompeys David James in goal and Campbell at CB. James in particular has been outstanding all season.
act smiley Posted 25 April 2007 Posted 25 April 2007 Jaskelaainen and Reina are too inconsistent for me to be in the team of the season - very good players but they do make mistakes. I'd go with either David James or Shay Given. James has got rid of all the stupid errors and has been a suprisingly good player this season, and Given has been awesome as usual, despite the presence of players like Carr, Babayaro and Bramble in Newcastle's back 4 they've conceeded less than media favourite Spurs due mostly to his awesomeness, and came back from a serious injury very quickly. Evra shouldn't really be in team of the season, I'd have to say and I've not been so convinced by Vidic as some. It definitely needs a Liverpool presence in the back 4.
Lord Nibblington Posted 25 April 2007 Posted 25 April 2007 The team is also voted for sometime towards the end of January, I think. This might explain some of the odd looking selections. Or is that just the award winners?
London_Fox Posted 25 April 2007 Author Posted 25 April 2007 Seems a bit strange to do team of the season that early. No real need for it either.
Micky Ruddle Posted 26 April 2007 Posted 26 April 2007 something has gone wrong there. van der sar pfft, ben foster, even though he plays for scummy watford,
