Preston North End have agreed a deal to sign Carlisle United striker Karl Hawley.

The 25-year-old will move to Deepdale on a free transfer when his Carlisle contract expires later this month.

He rejected an extension at Brunton Park and has, instead, accepted a three-year contract with Paul Simpson's Preston.

Hawley was signed for Carlisle by Simpson three years ago and notched 51 goals during his time with the League One club.

The forward follows Billy Jones in agreeing a switch to Preston and Hawley is keen to work with Simpson again, having attracted interest from other clubs.

"I'm delighted, it's a big move for me and I'm looking forward to it," Hawley told Preston's official website.

"I have spoken to a few other clubs, but I feel that this is the best move for me at the moment. I'm just looking forward to getting started and getting out on that pitch.

"Paul Simpson knows all about me and I know what he is all about, so that was a massive factor in my decision to move here and I'm just looking forward to working with him again."
