Stevosevic Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...s+Carlisle+deal Skysports.com understands Carlisle's Karl Hawley has turned down the club's offer of a new deal. The League One outfit offered Hawley, who is out of contract in the summer, a new deal to stay at Brunton Park. However, Hawley has snubbed the offer and looks set to leave the club on a free transfer this summer. The news has alerted a number of Championship clubs who are keen to sign the prolific striker. Preston are thought to be interested in Hawley with former Carlisle boss Paul Simpson a big admirer of the striker. With Hawley being available on a free transfer he is an attractive proposition for a number of clubs and Leicester, Plymouth, Stoke, Ipswich, Bristol City and Nottingham Forest are all thought to be monitoring Hawley's situation
STUHILL Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 This is someone who I was interested in when Carlilse were in League 2, saw him play a few times and he stood out! But since Promotion to league 1, he has really struggled to make the step-up! So, whether he just had a poor season or he really can't hack it, im not sure. He is small, quick and can hold the ball up pretty well for a small guy, but when we are linked with players like Todorov, then Hawley comes way down the shopping list.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 I'd take him on a free as a backup striker, it just depends on whether he'd be happy to try and force his way into the team. Our main priority when looking at strikers should be someone with a bit of presence though so he wouldn't be top of my list, free transfer or not.
Micky Ruddle Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 I'm worrying that if he does come, he will struggle in this division. He's got 12 goals in 30 appearences for Carlisle. Moving on....
Tubes Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 cant be no worse of a back up striker than the likes of hammand and horsefield
Micky Ruddle Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 To be fair, he will be no more than a fringe player at the club, and will be offloaded in January back down to League 1 or even League 2
Wezleylowski Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 To be fair, he will be no more than a fringe player at the club, and will be offloaded in January back down to League 1 or even League 2 Are you a psychic then Fud? Know one can accurately predict what he will be like in this league, it is a gamble to bring him down here but, but it is one i would be willing to take. It could pay dividends for us so what do we have to lose?
Geo V Posted 12 May 2007 Posted 12 May 2007 We were linked to him in January and I can remember reading some Carlisle fan page somewhere and they dont rate him which may say plenty I would hope that we can attract good enough players as starters and have the likes of Fryatt as bench players and maybe someone like Hawley as 4th string. It wouldnt be a bad signing for nothing as long as we are getting players like MDV off the wage bill.

Tevez Posted 13 May 2007 Posted 13 May 2007 It doesnt really, Wolves signed Keough from S****horpe (League 1 at the time) and look what he has turned out to be. He took the micky out of us. From looking at Hawley's performances and goals there is no reason why we should sign him.

Keogh was playing against a team that mentally had their flipflops on......our lot were never going to give 100% against Wolves, christ they were worn out from the "battle" of relegation, poor lambs.
Micky Ruddle Posted 13 May 2007 Posted 13 May 2007 I'd rather not take risks, and i would rather get a player with either Championship/Premiership qualities, with a proven track record.
STUHILL Posted 13 May 2007 Posted 13 May 2007 He is going to Preston apparently, got spotted with Simpson, his former boss, at their ground! No great loss for us, would only be a fringle player i think!
Ric Flair Posted 14 May 2007 Posted 14 May 2007 Lazy journalism, we were linked with him when Nob Kelly was here. He's been fooked off, so Karl won't be joining the other numpties here.

Not sure who he is to be honest not seen him at all but first impression is to be looking up rather than down for players if we want to get out of this division... thats not to say lil diamonds cant be found if you dont dig around... i just cant imagine the likes of coleman and tigana digging in that direction

He isn't coming anyway, as someone mentioned, he was a player linked with us when Kelly was here! We are aiming for better than him, he has struggled in league 1 this season and been overshadowed by a young loanee striker Carlilse have had from Blackburn i think!
Master Fox Posted 16 May 2007 Posted 16 May 2007 Leicester will join Preston and Ipswich in the race to sign Carlisle striker Karl Hawley. (Daily Star)
Mort Posted 16 May 2007 Posted 16 May 2007 Leicester will join Preston and Ipswich in the race to sign Carlisle striker Karl Hawley. (Daily Star) Sounds like a recycled story... nothing new, put it down to either his agent rasing his name or lazy journalism... we wont be getting a "K*lly signing" like Hawley.
volpeazzurro Posted 16 May 2007 Posted 16 May 2007 Sounds like a recycled story... nothing new, put it down to either his agent rasing his name or lazy journalism... we wont be getting a "K*lly signing" like Hawley. He's 25yrs and scored 12 goals in a poor division. If he was any good he'd have been snapped up by now. Look at Elvis Hammond, similar age and he came from a premiership club, BLOODY USELESS! can't even control a ball yet. We already have better forwards in Fryatt and Hume and need somebody to go go with them thats even better, preferably a target man. Cheers.
city1993 Posted 31 May 2007 Posted 31 May 2007 I fear he is the same as hume, can't have the same player twice surely !!
