Stevosevic Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 I am watching the coverage of the Manchester run, i do alot of running and i think i will start doing some of the events. Does anyone on here run regularly in the annual races or has done in the past?
Guest Gist Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 I haven't before, I hope to do the London Marathon in the future though.
Guest Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 I have only run one half-marathon, but have tried to enter London Marathon. I think I've got a about four more attempts before definitely getting a place, so plenty of time to prepare.

Rincewind Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 Don't mind walking, but running? No way. In the olden days when I was at school we used to do cross-country over the old City Farm (anybody remember that? It's where Beaumont Leys Estate is) an Me and a couple of other kids used to finish 30 min plus behind everybody else. Fun days.
Samu Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 I did it!!! It was such a brilliant thing to do and I highly recommend doing anything like this, the feeling you get when you finish the race is amazing, even if you're knackered! I really wanna do the Great North Run next then the Marathon. My time today was 54 minutes for 10km so although it's not lightning fast I didn't stop running throughout and I broke 1 hour (considering I'd not run this distance before I didn't know what to expect time wise). Still it was an awesome experience and I have a nice medal to show I completed it! But now I'm in pain

Our school was pretty good, couple of us represented the County! Proud days.
Leicfox Posted 21 May 2007 Posted 21 May 2007 Ive done a few fun runs when i was younger, but nothing since. Its Boring. My old man used to do that race walking, and is part of the Centurions club, it's basically race walking for 100miles non-stop, i think it was Leicester to Manchester in a certain time (under 24hrs) to qualify as a badge holder. He was in bits for days after, as he got a stone in his trainer and it blistered and took all the skin off his foot, he could'nt stop because race walking has so many rules (I THINK).
Rincewind Posted 21 May 2007 Posted 21 May 2007 Up to a few years ago I used to do the carity walk 20 miles. The first time I did it I had some complaints from some who had sponsored me at work because I told them I thought I'd only do about 10 miles and did the 20. Good feeling when completed. The events gone downhill in recent years. You used to get hamburgers or hot dogs at the end but now you are lucky if there are any sandwiches left. I used to start on time but finish 2 or 3 hours after the majority mainly because I stopped off for refreshments on the way.

Does anyone on here run regularly in the annual races or has done in the past? One of my clients ran the London marathon the other day (for the first time). She only started running a year ago, so she is still a newbie. Much of the info she has came from her running club and online running enthusiasts' forums. Hope this helps
