lookwhaticando Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 Real chief wants Beckham to stay Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon is said to be ready to try and convince LA Galaxy-bound David Beckham to change his mind and stay at the Bernabeu. Beckham, 32, is due to join the MLS club when his Real contract expires at the end of June. Calderon has hinted there is a clause in the England midfielder's contract which could allow them to keep him. Calderon told Marca newspaper: "We need to sit down with him, his representatives and decide between us."
DB11 Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 Hasn't he already signed a contract for LA Galaxy? If so, how can he just stay in Spain?

lookwhaticando Posted 10 June 2007 Author Posted 10 June 2007 Why would they put a claus like that in his contract? I can't believe that's true. It's probably not a clause that permits such a move as such, it could be a clause that has some level of ambiguity in it that could be exploited. I'd doubt there's a clause that explicitly says "we (The Club) reserve the right to stop you leaving when you've already agreed a move..."
Joe. Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 There's no chance he'll stay at Madrid I don't think. He's made up his mind.
Flynny Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 There might be a clause where the player has an option for a further year in certain circumstances? Since that was signed earlier, it'd supercede his pre-contract agreement with LA Galaxy.
Tevez Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 No chance of staying at Real. He wants to make it big in USA.
Guest seanfox778 Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 i hope he does stay, he's got a couple of decent years left in a top european league, he can still be a huge hit in america in a few years time, although he'd have a couple of years in the doghouse.
Ultra Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 The only way the move won't happen is if he has a bad injury in his next (and last) game for Real. Too much money has already been spent in the States on the basis the move will happen. It's too late for him to back out now, even if he wanted to.
Mack Posted 11 June 2007 Posted 11 June 2007 There is a chance of him being loaned back to a European club for the winter, as the MLS season is a summer one. Lalas has said the Galaxy may agree to a loan, so could they be talking about that? It would mean he could play the middle portion of the Spanish domestic season. I would love to see him come back the the Premier league for a few months, but I suppose his feelings towards manure will prevent that.

"He is coming to the Los Angeles Galaxy and we don't anticipate him going anywhere but the Los Angeles Galaxy for the foreseeable future," general manager Alexi Lalas told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
Mack Posted 11 June 2007 Posted 11 June 2007 Lalas has also said they would consider a close season loan. It seems the dimwits at Real thought they could buy Beckham out of his Galaxy contract, looks like that idiot of a Real President if going to have a lot of egg on his face.

Reports in Spain suggest that the president has just made the 'move' to please the fans, as they did not want him to leave. So indeed, it looks like he will end with egg on his face when he moves in the summer.
