Ric Flair Posted 14 February 2005 Posted 14 February 2005 I am over the moon that the mole has gone, but has it come to late. I feel that if we could have got rid of Scowcroft a month or so ago we might have been able to get in Rob Hulse or Kenwynne Jones. I know both of them are loan deals and Levein is looking for long term signings, but both are young and potential permanent signings. I feel we are one quality player away from getting the points we need to make a move on the play-off pack. I know it won't hurt to stay down for another season, but there's nothing better than a late run for the premiership is there (1995-96) Do you think Levein will bring another striker in soon? Gavin Swankie has scored 6 goals in about 60 games for Abroath and they are in the 2nd division in Scotland (equivalent of the vauxhall conference) so that would seem unreliable. I'd rather us go for Kenny Deuchar from Gretna. Craig Beattie from Celtic??
Simon Posted 14 February 2005 Posted 14 February 2005 I think he has to; unless Tommy Wright is FINALLY going to step up to the plate, and I'm still not convinced he will. Andy Kirk is looking rather a good bet, being as we have limited funds. We've really been lacking the killer edge all season. Once MDV and Stephen Hughes get a run in the team maybe this will develop. I haven't yet given up hope of the play-offs and the future, IMO, does look more promising then, say, a few months ago, but I very much doubt that we will make it. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 14 February 2005 Posted 14 February 2005 I don't think there's much point in making the signing of another striker on a loan deal at this stage. It's obvious that he wants Connolly and de Vries to be his front two next season so this time together will help them learn each others games. If we'd have brought Hulse in he would've only been on the bench so you might as well save the money you would've spent on his wages for someone more permanent. I still think the signing of a centre back on a permanent deal is a priority.
Ric Flair Posted 14 February 2005 Author Posted 14 February 2005 Levein can only sign players from England until the end of the season so I doubt we'll get another striker unless we have a few injuries. I personally think it will be a good time for Levein to scour england for some players and also give Wright a chance in the mean time if required.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 14 February 2005 Posted 14 February 2005 Me too. This is the chance Wright has needed for a long time. This is as close as he's been to the first team for the last season and a bit. Benjamin and Scowy are out of the picture now and Blake is still injured and hopefully will stay like that until the end of the season. If Wright doesn't impress Levein with his attitude and application when he gets a go coming off the bench then his days might be numbered. Hopefully he'll grab this chance with both hands.
Ric Flair Posted 14 February 2005 Author Posted 14 February 2005 Aren't we forgetting Morris? <_< 66550 Yes, we are and will continue to until he leaves.
MON Posted 14 February 2005 Posted 14 February 2005 Aren't we forgetting Morris? <_< 66550 He's surprisingly injured.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 14 February 2005 Posted 14 February 2005 He is very forgetable and what use is he to us when he's on the treatment table? He keeps the physio company at least.
Steven Posted 14 February 2005 Posted 14 February 2005 Aren't we forgetting Morris? <_< 66550 He has been here for a year and have we had value for money from him. Like feck we have. <_<

The fact is he is not that good and he plays for a team who has bought promotion and creates something like 30 chances a game so even the likes of Benji would score the goals he has.

We are not going to be promoted this season, even with a replacement for Foxestalk's favourite son. Our uncharismatic ex player is not the source of our current difficulties. The best we can hope for is a miracle in the cup. A minor giant killing effort against the 'Addicks and then a kind 6th round draw. That might keep confidence sufficiently buoyant to maintain a mid table position. Call me a pessimist but I can't see things improving next season either. CL will be scraping the barrel with his summer signings I guarantee you. Another load of Jocko second raters. Most of the SPL is 1st division standard (P1-5 excepted). And getting promotion double quick does matter. Parachute payments and all that jazz (the jazz being our debt repayment schedule).

Coupled with the fact he's been poor and disinterested for the last few months... Scowcroft scored 11 goals from the right wing in our promotion season.
