I have a vague recollection of it happening about 5 years ago but if it happened cannot remember whom or who the opposition were. Anyone have an answer? Just a thought, if someone were to be sent off does this mean they would be suspended for the first game of the season.

Unless the player doesn't understand what he's saying, in which case he has no choice but to send him off, which also happened in the Bilbao match

Tommy Williams was sent off during a game in Germany during an early 80s pre-season tour of Germany and Holland. He was not banned from the first game of the season - this would depend on whether the sending-off was reported by the ref and whether the report was forwrded to the English FA.

Manwell Pablo Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 Rooneys been sent off in a pre season game I think. And Phillip Cocou got sent off for nailing Paul Dickov when through on goal at the Walkers Stadium, but I can't remember any of our players getting sent off.

David Villa Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 I went to watch the Amsterdam tournament bout 4 years ago to support Liverpool in iit cos my Dad is a kopite, and Liverpool had 2 players sent of against Galatasary Gerrard and Neil Mellor and they both got suspensiond for the first games of the season.

I'm 99% sure it was Paul Dickov actually, sorry...I remember it well, he was clean through in about the 10th minute and Cocu had to go really. You never really get sendings off in friendlies but this one was an exception. We still lost though 1-0! (Saviola scored right?)
