The Reverend Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 Fooking fantastic from Garcia. brilliant round. Another like that and the titles his. Unfortunatly, its never that simple in the game of golf. But i'll be rooting for him, hes played the 3 rounds brilliantly and deserves the title. He is capable of some lose ones, but over the 3 days hes looked very much in control of his swing, and hopefully he'll keep putting as hes is. Not brilliant, but hes holing a few, a lot better than what he was doing before, thats for sure. Come on Sergio!
Thracian Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 Terrific drama. Padraig is a fearsome competitor when he's in the groove but Garcia had his chance and at top level you have to take it when it arises. As the quoted philosophy of 10 two-letter words went, went: "If it is to be, it is up to me." But Garcia must still have been so frustrated at the vital puts which touched the side of the hole hole yet failed to drop. Right though that people are already talking about it as one of the best Championships ever.
l444ry Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 And spare a thought for Andres Romero who double-bogeyed two of the last seven holes when in the lead. If his luck and nerve had held Garcia and Harrington would have been playing for second place.
Milky Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 Harrington was my prediction at the start of the tournament, so i'm pretty pleased with that. I do feel sorry for Garcia though, he threw it away really with that 73.
The Reverend Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 Sergio blew it in effect. 3 shot lead going into the final round, you have to do the business. You have to ask whos name would have been on the trophy had Woods been 3 shots clear? I think we know whos name it would be. And thats what these boys are striving for - the same level as Tiger. Sergio just does not seem to be able to handle the heat. Im so happy for Harrington though, what a way to win it, brilliant drama, what a Championship. He thought he'd blew it, but then Garcia makes bogey on 18, pure drama. Who said golf was boring? Congrats Harrington though
Head Honcho Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 I've just done a tenner on Sergio Garcia at 33/1. Oh well at least I had a run for my money and managed to lay off £50 on Harrington before the play off. Great golf though!

Did you see Harrington's 18th hole! Two water hazards!

dandannieldanok Posted 22 July 2007 Author Posted 22 July 2007 The way Harrington played the 18th in his regulation round and the way Garcia once again crumbled for the most part of the day highlights the reason Europeans have struggled in majors of late.
Joe. Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 It was a great tense finish but Sergio threw it away really... Harrington took his chances well in the playoff and won comfortably in the end.

Can't see why you say that Joe. They both played the last seven holes in PAR. Garcia was wobbling for the last 27 holes, not just the final few today. And, as you say, the play-off was won quite comfortably by Harrington as Garcia never had a sniff until the last putt.

I only say that because of his 3 shot lead at the start of play today and the missed putt at the end really. I know that it is a hard course though to be fair
David Villa Posted 23 July 2007 Posted 23 July 2007 Unlucky Sergio, i think he deserved to win after leading the championship everyday and he played some of the best shots of the championship. That chip out of the rough on day 2 1st hole that was sexual.
