davieG Posted 18 February 2005 Posted 18 February 2005 FOOTBALL: PHIL AND KEV TOLD THEY'LL GO Feb 18 2005 Exclusive By David Mccarthy BIG-EARNING regulars Phil Stamp and Kevin McKenna will leave Hearts at the end of the season. Manager John Robertson is releasing the experienced duo - - who are both out of contract - in order to bring in new players during the summer. Canadian defender McKenna and Teessider Stamp are expected to try to continue their careers in England. Robbo said: 'They are still in the squad but they'll go at the end of the season. They've done nothing wrong but we are bringing in other players and changing the style of play. 'In Kevin's case, he feels he wants to move elsewhere. In Phil's case,he is on a good salary but we feel we can't facilitate that any more.Kevin and Phil's wages could see us bring in three or four players. 'They signed contracts when the club was paying big money but now we have to pay sensible money. They have accepted the situation.' Robbo will try to tempt Paul Hartley into signing an extended deal, although the midfielder is expected to hold out for his dream move to Celtic. He added:'If Celtic don't come back, we hope to tie Paul down on a long--term contract that will see him finish his career here.
Steven Posted 18 February 2005 Posted 18 February 2005 I suspect that these will be two ex-Hearts players that CL will not want to snap up.

Scow Posted 18 February 2005 Posted 18 February 2005 Phil Stamp is nothing but a short, fat, slow bloater in midfielder.

weegie jambo Posted 18 February 2005 Posted 18 February 2005 I suspect that these will be two ex-Hearts players that CL will not want to snap up. 68160[/snapback] you could do a lot worse than McKenna if you want a younger centre half, he's always done a job for us and has Bundesleague experience but cant see him getting any kind of game under Robbo's formation for us. He's only been used as a target man up front this season as replacement for DeVries and thats really not Robbo's style and we have plenty of other centre halfs who are getting first shout if Presley or Webster are out.
Molson Canadian Posted 18 February 2005 Posted 18 February 2005 Speaking from vancouver canada i'd like to point out Kevin McKenna if he is going to be available in the summer i think CL should sign him he's a good player who i think would make a excellent addition to the leicester lineup he's got uefa cup experience lots of international experience and he played in the bundesliga with Energie also did i mention that he was hearts 2nd leading scorer in 2001-2002 he usually plays as a subsitute striker but can also play defence here's some more info on him from the team canada site Played against Bordeaux as a centre back in the UEFA Cup with Hearts in November, 2003 ... Playing mostly as a substitute striker with Hearts to start the 2003 season ... Second leading scorer with eight goals with Hearts in 2001-2002 season … Signed with Hearts in July, 2001 … Made his debut with Hearts on March 18, 2001 after arriving on loan from Energie Cottbus … Spent a week on trial with Everton in January, 2001 … Spent a week on trail with West Ham United and Glasgow Celtic in November 2000 … Made his Bundesliga debut for Energie Cottbus on August 19, 2000 … Played three seasons with Energie Cottbus in Germany

JJ-AFC Posted 18 February 2005 Posted 18 February 2005 Phil Stamp has a good touch, but he's painfully slow. Watching him chase a loose ball is like a scene from the Matrix. Kevin McKenna is an average defender. He's been played up front in the past two where he's equally average. Leave both alone. They're not good enough.

Please dont sign Phil Stamp!
Molson Canadian Posted 18 February 2005 Posted 18 February 2005 i would be happy to see Kevin McKenna sign for leicester i think he could fit in well and he is young ! so he has time to become a better player i think if we can pick him up for close to nothing i think he would be a decent signing....but i doubt it will happen oh well i know of some other young canadian players that could be of service too !
