Achilles Heel

Every team is only as strong as its weakest link and as the Blackpool game gets closer two such "weaknesses" are talked about and I am far less worried about one than the other.

Many are concerned about the left side. But, in Nils, Kenton, Gilbert, Maybury we went two seasons with either lousy left-backs or people who could only do half the job.

Now it seems we have at least two in Sheehan and Mattock who can, at their best, do the job properly and triple-alternatives of Porter, Hayes and Beswick on the left - all of whom are better than Welsh/Tiatto as attackers.

Until the close season matches, the last time Sheehan looked properly fit and at his best was in the 2-0 home win against Sheffield Wednesday. He now seems to have regained that form. He and Mattock have shown they can interchange as full-back/left midfielders offerin another approach on the left and Mattock looked good enough when he helped secure our safety last season.

So no, it's not the left that bothers me, but the goalkeeping. And at the very least I'd be encouraging our defenders not to concede any unnecessary corners or close-to-goal free kicks because I don't believe either Henderson or Nielsen are likely to be convincing beneath an aerial bombardment or havin to make decisions about leaving theior line or staying put.

Both are undoubtedly good shot stoppers but that's not the full story in English Championship football. MA says he likes his players to be tough, battling types and yet he seems to have sent our most physical and dominant goalkeeper into exile.

I only hope I'm wrong.

i'm really not sure that henderson is such a poor goalkeeper ; in fact i would say he was pretty good and at fault for no more goals than many top keepers ( defensive disorganisation more often to blame ); even david james has had the odd slip up but he's still a terrific keeper

Generally I agree. He just seems a bit short to be convincing when the ball's in the air, a bit indecisive about leaving his line and his distribution, although improving, is still no better than ordinary. Of the two though I'd sooner he started Saturday.

i think the faults you've mentioned are more to do with having a jittery disorganised defence in front of him ; if that can be marshalled properly i think you would see a marked improvement in his all round game ; its a lot to do with confidence in your fellow defenders

walsh and elliot could have made me look good in goal

If it wasnt for his inability to control his boredom during a game and want to go wandering, David James would be a world class keeper. As he has got older he has stopped most of the running out of the box stuff and stays on his line to show what a quality shot-stopper he is.

As for us, we are worried about Hendo or Nielsen but we haven't seen the latter in a competitive game yet and Hendo at times didn't let us down when the defenders and defensive midfielders did. He should have more protection now if called upon. The left side may also be a problem but Mattock showed signs that he can play at this level and we have quite a few players who can fill in at left-mid although it may not be there favoured positions.

Time will tell if MA has got things right tactically or personnel wise but I urge all fellow Foxes fans not to kick up a stink if we don't play lovely balanced flowing football tomorrow as it will take time and there is still a bit of time for MA to secure more signings to maybe fill the voids we have.

Hold on. Teams are never ready, they are always evolving. But the deadline for being as ready as we can be for Championship football is tomorrow 3-00pm.

If MA goes with Neilsen in goal and Chambers at left back that's what he'll be judged on. And any other decisions he makes.

And why not? We were so far off the pace by the end of the August 2006, and certainly by the end of September that our season was virtually over before it had properly started.

We don't want that again. We want positive football and decent results. The one comes with the other generally.

I know MA can ring up MM for reinforcements any time he likes until the deadline closes but that only means more disruption, more hacking the team about. And if that's the case he just has to cope

But if MA's good, and I think he is, he could get a performance out of the FoxesTalk Over 21's let alone the multi-million pound squad he's assembled. :D.

He knows the score and I believe he'll succeed. But he needs no special favours or consideration and I don't believe he'll expect them.

Many managers would give a lot for the chances he's had to put a side together.

I for one make no apologies for campaigning to see quality football at Leicester City from quality players. Indeed I'm pleased with how quickly and dramatically the picture has changed.
