DB11 Posted 14 August 2007 Posted 14 August 2007 Yes, yes I'm a referee and I qualified in March 06 but does anyone have any tips? I know the rules... but what if they back chat or something like that... I'm a bit nervous This is my first season that I will be refereeing on the park. I've reffed at Belvoir Drive before but the parent's can't shout at you there () Any referee's here could give me some pointers / guidelines? Oh, and my first game is a cup game and with both teams desperate to go through... well, I hope it doesn't get a bit heated. It's the under 11s / under 12s age group this season. Oh, and how do I get paid?

Oh, and how do I get paid? You get paid by going to the home manager at the end of the game. At Under 11, it's the glory hunting parents you want to be worried about, not the players.
samingram_uk Posted 14 August 2007 Posted 14 August 2007 I doubt you will get much abuse from parents of 12 year olds. Although you may do, depending on your decisions. All i can say from my expreinces is keep it fair. Dont give 1 team a free kick for something and the other team not one for the same thing. As for backchat, just have a word with them. Take them to one side and tell them you will have to ask your manger to sub you or you will be sent off for not agreeing with your decision. Should sh*t the little ones up . I know i got a tenner when i was a lino when i did under 12's, not too sure about refs. Good Luck Mate
DB11 Posted 14 August 2007 Author Posted 14 August 2007 Oh I got a letter saying that we get £20 this season as opposed to £18 last season. It was increased by £2 because the ref's were just given £20 note and asked if they had £2 change... not many did. So instead of needing £2 change they just increased the charge to a nice round number.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 14 August 2007 Posted 14 August 2007 My advice would be 'Don't'. Everyone hates you!
samingram_uk Posted 14 August 2007 Posted 14 August 2007 My advice would be 'Don't'. Everyone hates you! Only if your a wank*r
DB11 Posted 14 August 2007 Author Posted 14 August 2007 My advice would be 'Don't'. Everyone hates you! Everyone hates me or referee's in general?
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 14 August 2007 Posted 14 August 2007 Everyone hates me or referee's in general? Well you're almost certainly the best candidate for the job then. Stamp on a few 12 year olds by 'accident' for me. Teach them respect early I say, parasitic bastards!!
DB11 Posted 14 August 2007 Author Posted 14 August 2007 At the weekend I'm refereeing at the Ibstock Tournament and I get £50 I'll probably also ask some of the ref's there too
Geo V Posted 14 August 2007 Posted 14 August 2007 Make sure you pop into the dressing rooms before the game to let the kids and the managers know what you expect out there. Its usually an ice-breaker. Actually, as you are reffing kids it may be advisable to take the linesman in with you just in case you get accused of being a Paedo!

Unless those paedo's are getting younger
DB11 Posted 14 August 2007 Author Posted 14 August 2007 Most of the clubs don't have dressing rooms do they? They just turn up in the kit, warm up, have a team talk at the side of the pitch then I blow my whistle and shout captains. Oh... then what do I do when the captains come up to me. I know the rules... but that's about it They never told us anything else like the minor details. And yeah, I am 14
samingram_uk Posted 14 August 2007 Posted 14 August 2007 Shake hands with both captins, make them shake hands ( its a must ) Then let the team with the better looking kit, choose heads or tails or the grass meathod in either hand.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 14 August 2007 Posted 14 August 2007 I recommend you also grow your facial hair, it's a clear sign that you're the man in charge here. Yes, you're Al Gore, yes you're Rafael Benitez, yes you're Doctor Richard Kimble (before he was falsely convicted). Do it DB11, show them you're the lion amongst the ravaged wilderbeast

They often do especially when with young, lions have occassionally been killed hunting large beasts, but they are still the top predator and will still have a veritable feast

Good Luck Mate you see mate , parents are the worst from age 8 - 14 , they think every game is the world cup final . i used to ref a fair bit and the only advise id give you is dont let owt bother u . you will get stick , its what happens to a referee unfortunatly
NorthernFox Posted 14 August 2007 Posted 14 August 2007 Where possible let the game flow. Remember that you are there to aid the game & players. Do not take any disrespect off any of the players. Be strong but fair. As a prime example take Graham Poll and do the complete opposite. Most of all, best of british.
