Mark Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 The club seem to think so, do you? Not a chance, too expensive and no attractive opposition. They would of been better arranging 1 home friendly with an attractive club last Barca last season and getting a crowd of 20,000.
Guest Guest Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 Well as a footballing point of view, we stayed unbeaten and confidence must be high. 4-2 against Real Mallorca is no walk in the park, fair enough it wasn't the Uefa Cup final but it's still proof that we are going to be favourites for promotion this season. Connolly is the business, if it wasn't for Dickov we wouldn't have him. First reason being because Dickov earned us a million pound in the last few games with his goal scoring exploits and secondly because he pissed off to Blackburn. I would rather have Connolly any day of the week, how a premiership team hasn't ever snapped him up i'll never know. Natural goal scorer, age on his side and cheap as chips.
Mad Dog Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 Good in footballing terms as it gave the whole squad a run out, and gave the new lads a feel of the new stadium, and good in financial terms as it made a nice profit - can't see how it wasn't a success, really?
andy_croydz Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 was a success to me i enjoyed every single match that was played in it
Ricey Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 I was a massive flop and the club know it. The attendances were poor and so were the matches except the final. A waste of time and I'm glad the fsns didn't turn up because it shows the club just what we think to celebrating 120 years of exsistence.
andy_croydz Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 every single match that was played including the other teams blue mistress
kerryh Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 I thought the whole organisation of the event was a farce. I was so (still am) mad that L1 was closed to us when every other part of the ground was open, and that the stewards couldn't say why? I am cross that yesterdays half time entertainment wasn't the forest and Leicester has-been match that had been advertised. There was no food on Saturday, the attendance was really low and the stewards were being extra picky about things, for example one man was taking a photograph of his children sitting in the seats that make up the foxes head in the kop - and the steward told him he wasn't allowed to take photos in the groud (since when???) On a positive note - I am pleased I saw the game yesterday - I thought City played really well and it was a good taster for next week. I'm just about to phone the club now and lodge my complaint!
Oli Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 It was a total flop the attendences were so low and we didnt really have exciting competition (excpet Mallorca) I managed to go yesterday and i got there for the second half of the Maritimo and East Bengal game and i am glad i didnt get there for the first half because i would of died of bordom it was the worst match i have ever seen. Hopefully next year it will be just a friendly again Boca or someone like that, would be alot better.
Guest Daniel Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 I agree, attracting a big name club for a single friendly is alot better idea, would get more people for one match than youd get for loads put together.
Mad Dog Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 I can tell you for a fact that they made more money from the Pepsi Max thing than they did from that Barcelona game last year which set a record attendance. It made money. It gave the players 2 good games. What more could you want from friendlies?
Oli Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 Decent teams to play and not a friendly just for the money it should be for the fans because they would be no where without us.
Guest Daniel Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 It didnt make them anmore, infact i bet it cost them to host this shit flop tournament.
Mad Dog Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 It didn't, it's a fact it made more money than that Barcelona game. It'd already made more money before they sold any tickets, tickets sold were just a bonus, and since they sold about 7,000 that's quite a nice bit on top. Friendlies are to give players a run out, and as we had two good games, it clearly did that. The fact it made plenty of money on top of that is another plus, surely. Just looking for another excuse to have a pop at the club.
Guest Daniel Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 It made more money? Over the 2 days they didnt even have as many people as what they did for the one game against barcelona.
Guest Guest Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 It made more money?Over the 2 days they didnt even have as many people as what they did for the one game against barcelona. They got money from Pepsi and also from other businesses who sponsored it. Easily made more money than the Barca game.
Mad Dog Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 What did Barcelona make in gate revenue? Say £20x30,000 (and it was nowhere near that, what with kids tickets for five quid, season ticket discounts, people with free tickets etc), that's £600k. That's all it made, apart from maybe a couple of thousand from program and match ball sponsors. The tournament was broadcast to India and other places on a few different channels and had millions of viewers (East Bengal = Man Utd in India). They would have got well, well over a million from that. Plus the Sponsorship deals with not just Pepsi who'd have paid a shitload but all the other sponsorship that came with it. As for it being shit for the fans - ask some of the thousands of kids who went to watch Leicester against Mallorca for free, I think they'll have enjoyed it. I think most people who went to the City game on Sunday would have enjoyed it, it was a good game and Leicester thrashed them.

Guest Guest Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 Its certainly true that the club did make money this weekend and more than last years one off. The only issue is whether making money should come before the views and feelings of the fans. I'm afraid the club is a business at the moment, trying to make money to give MA a chance of getting players and to keep the books in order. Whether or not you feel it was a rip off, if it allowed MA to sign Joey Gudjonnson or nathan Blake (not that I rate him) then perhaps we should express our misgivings but accept it was a neccessary evil
Sparky Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 oi petrescu , i started this tread yesterday , why have u replaced it

City lost in the region of 150-200 grand on this idiotic event. Pepsi sponsored it for next to nothing as one of the directors on the LCFC board is a senior execuitve at Pepsi. As for the TV rights to India, they could never charge that amount of money, and it was given to them for nothing in the vain hope that some big Indian tycoon would have watched and thought to invest. All in all a total farce from start to finish. I don't like having a go at the Club, but when people are employed to do a job and fail so miserabley at it then I get angry. Mace Out..................................................
Oli Posted 2 August 2004 Posted 2 August 2004 Why is it all about making money though, at the minute its all the club think about. Should be about the fans not the money. The kids would of enjoyed watching some of there idols playing for Barcelona or another top club more than watching Real Mallorca with only 1 or 2 players they have heard of!
