Sir Fynwy Posted 7 September 2007 Posted 7 September 2007 The only way to get games back to 3pm on a saturday would be for UEFA to remove the rule banning live broadcasting of matches played between 3 and 5 on a Saturday, this was brought in to stop clubs losing attendance but has now had the effect of moving loads of matches from this slot to allow them to be on the tv. Someone needs to sort this but it's unlikely they will.

That rule needs to stay in place because i'm sure attendences would suffer, making the problem even worse.
Sir Fynwy Posted 7 September 2007 Posted 7 September 2007 That rule needs to stay in place because i'm sure attendences would suffer, making the problem even worse. That's a silly arguement as shown by only one match being played at 3pm on 6th October, TV has won and football needs to come to terms with it, if there was more competition the clubs would have to offer better service and pricing for fans who want to attend.
Floating Fox Posted 7 September 2007 Author Posted 7 September 2007 The thing is...how many times in the past 3 years have Man Utd played on a saturday at 3pm? Not many, there first home game at 3pm Saturday this season is agaisnt boro in late October. Football should be for the one's who go to the games, not those who watch it on TV. I understand that they can't show games at 3pm becasue clubs think that people will stay at home to watch them, but to be honest, I find most games quite boring to watch live on TV. I like the big games & other ones, but games like Wigan vs Boro. Why the fock would anyone want to watch that?? The Germans have got it spot on. 1 Game on A friday evening, 1 Game on A sunday afternoon. The rest all 3pm Saturday k/o, thats it the top 2 tiers of their league.
Floating Fox Posted 7 September 2007 Author Posted 7 September 2007 Fans may whinge, but they'll still turn up for matches no matter what the kick-off time or date.Like it or not, Sunday matches are part and parcel of Premiership football, and always have been. What? So right let me get this right, in the 70's, they had 8 games on a Sunday? Yeah I thought so to. I whinge, and I don't go. I despise sunday games, who wants to get up early on a sunday for an 11.30 k/o. In Italy & Spain its worse, some games don't finish till midnight out there & it's no wonder they're struggling with crowds.

Secondly, you'll still be turning up for our games that have been shifted to a 5.20pm kickoff for television, I take it? Or will you boycott the game and stay at home to watch it on TV? Different people enjoy their football in different ways. The way football is these days, it's possible for people to enjoy it by watching it on television. I don't like the money in the game these days either but you're fighting a losing battle on this one. It's here to stay no matter how many posts you make on here about it.

True, But even when the premiership started, it shifted a couple of games a weekend. And 5.20 k/o's aren't a problem for me, it simply means that you can go in the pub for longer. It's just the amount of games that are shifted and how many are played on sunday's now or saturday mornings. And yes, it is here to stay. Thats the sad thing As fans, we can't do anything about it.

I bet most of you subscribe to either Satelite or cable. It's simple don't subscribe to the Sports Packages. Alternatively have a national boycott of live games.

I get Setanta free & I actually quite enjoy it, espcailly the Motorsport they do

Floating Fox Posted 8 September 2007 Author Posted 8 September 2007 How is it? I just don't find it very good. Rarely watch it! Theres a load off shite on throught the day, and in the evenin' Id'e rather just watch a comedy or something.
Sparky Posted 8 September 2007 Posted 8 September 2007 I'm a man who likes weekend football matches to be played on a Saturday, I always have done. I like to get up, wander in to town, buy a paper, read it whilst having a fry up. The in the bookies for a few football bets. Then if i'm not going the Leicester game, then it's up the boozer in the early afternoon for a skinful and watch the results come in. near on the same routine for me . heaven

Geo V Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 All seater stadiums, early kick-offs, increased prices, football has been drifting away from being a working mans sport for years now. As a kid I used to love getting the old teletext up at 3pm and sit back and watch the scores come in. Unfortunately, its all about money today and thinking about fans having to travel up or down the motorways for early kick offs doesn't seem to be in the organizers thoughts, nor are things like the aforementioned all seater stadiums and crazy ticket prices we have to pay. The good news is its not all bad. Once again, as a kid I didn't get the chance to watch that much live football. These days a real football fan practically doesn't have to leave the house if he or she has Sky installed. We also get a better quality fo player in the country now and don't have to put up with as much cack I suppose but for the purists, something needs to be done so we can have our game back. I cant see anything happening though.
