Churchill Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 I have been reading through some topics and on the atmosphere one most people say that no one sings because people dont sing the old songs.... well here is your chance to post in some chants and then we can sing them on matchdays im not saying i dont know any but i would like to hear some of your chants
Micky Ruddle Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 For starters: When You're Smiling. Can we sort this one out. This one is a tongue tickler between the middle/end part.
BigGibbo Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 Ive got when your smiling as my sig and still forget the middle half the time
Bert Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 I have been reading through some topics and on the atmosphere one most people say that no one sings because people dont sing the old songs.... well here is your chance to post in some chants and then we can sing them on matchdays im not saying i dont know any but i would like to hear some of your chants The atmosphere isn't poor because people don't sing the old songs. 1. Some people won't know them. 2. The singing fans are split into the kop and L1, the kop can't hear L1, L1 can't hear the kop. Thus being a key reason for poor atmosphere. 3. Stands are too far away from the pitch. Look back to Filbert Street and why the atmosphere was so good, because everyone who sang sat in SK1/SK2/SK3 etc and the stands were literally on the pitch and you could smell if the keeper farted at FS. . All the noise came from there, as all the singers were more compact and close to the away fans, which made for a better atmosphere. The prawn sandwichers sat in the Carling stand, The north stand was for kids, meaning hardly any singing

David O'Leary Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 when your smiling never gets going good though its like no one knows it I think that the turnstiles should hand out a lyrics sheet so everybody who doesn't know it will be able to sing with us

Geo V Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 Whilst I agree that songsheets would get us some bad press, we do have to do something to introduce some of the newer fans to some of the older chants like "When your smiling". Forums like this are great but we haven't got anywhere near enough actual fans on here who turn up on matchday (100-150 or so regulars who get to the games?) and that is nowhere near enough. Maybe the club should mail shot season ticket supporters and members and supporters organizations like The Trust about getting the atmosphere going and if that includes some song sheet then so be it!

Yeah mailing them would be fine, but i wouldnt want to turn up at the ground on a saturday looking like a complete numpty. Anyway i think people who don't learn the songs by there own accord dont want to sing.
AoWW Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 When youre smiling in full flow is class I taught 'When You're Smiling' to my class the other day!
Geo V Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 Yeah mailing them would be fine, but i wouldnt want to turn up at the ground on a saturday looking like a complete numpty. Anyway i think people who don't learn the songs by there own accord dont want to sing. Maybe but some people haven't got the confidence to sing the songs they know in the first place never mind getting involved in the ones they dont know all the words too! I think it is a shame that people arent open enough to turn up and open there mouths regardless as we arent judging them as its not X-Factor ! If truth be told it would only take a couple of renditions of a chant for the people nearby to earwig and join in. I am from Greek Cypriot parentage and know how to get by speaking Greek but am not so good on certain words. However, whenever I have been to a game involving a Greek or Cypriot club, I kind of sit back for a few minutes and listen to what they are singing and despite not even knowing what the odd word is, I can easily copy them and pronounce it! What I am trying to say is regardless of whether you know the songs, you can learn the words if some are seeing it even if its being sung in a foreign language! For a bit of practice, just click on the link for an away game for little Omonoia of Cyprus during an away game and follow the words BTW I couldnt get this damn tune out of my head after singing it for what seemed like 90 mins at a game. I then asked a mate what i was singing and I was advised that the words were "Whoever is a blue, is a whores son". Its a political song from Cypriots who hate Greece !! I left confused
lookwhaticando Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 I taught 'When You're Smiling' to my class the other day! ... and with that oh-so-vital tidbit, they're ready to take on the world! I always said Year 9 was getting easier by the year...
