Flynny Posted 30 September 2007 Posted 30 September 2007 Yeah Hume and Fryatt looked run of there legs THAT is what I call and excuse. I know they only had 45 minutes but they didn't look that knacked to me. Yes they worked hard on Wednesday (Mind you Hume was subbed on Wednesday anyway) but thats no excuse, there professional footballers, professional athletes, I'm not saying they never get knacked because they have a high energy job but at the same time if there knacked this early in the season, I'm worried. And another thing Megson said something about we have had 5 games in 15 days as if he didn't know games come round this quick in this league. Don't get me wrong i'm trying to give Megson time, I want him to do well but if only he admitted mistakes and didn't make excuses I might be able to support him more and not slag him off for it. His mistake was to think DJ and Cort would play well. They didn't. He admitted that, so he's halfway there, I guess. I know what you mean, though, they did look pretty fresh, but I think he has one eye on Tuesday as well. It was a mistake, but as they go it was an easy one to make and not something I'm going to hold against him while he's new. If in a couple of weeks he's still doing it, thats when we'll have something to really moan about.

Yeah fair enough we'll agree on that, I know he's just trying different people together, but in my eyes i'd have stayed with the same team that played Wednesday and if that didn't work then put DJ and Cort in if he really wanted to see what they were like together but at the end of the day he's the one in charge he's the one that calls the shots, he's the one that needs to try different things, so I spose I can forget about it and if he is still doing it in a few weeks then's the time be worried.
Geo V Posted 30 September 2007 Posted 30 September 2007 The Premiership? Yeah thats miles away but I cant even remember even MON managing to get us automatic promotion so the realist target of being in the top half of the table is hardly impossible, despite what we are seeing before us at the moment. The play-offs is still a possibility although the manager and team need to sort things right asap because we will end up leaving ourselves too much to do. Its frustrating times thats for sure, especially when we have shown some good things this season under both MA and GM but have failed to get what we deserved out of certain games this season. I pray GM has worked out who to play now though as yesterdays team selection was nothing short of shambolic.

Yeah. To be honest I think its shocking that we've spent millions on transfers, must be paying out shedloads in wages and yet we're still coming back to Fryatt and Hume up front.

I dont think that DJ has been that bad but I may be in the minority there. I also think that players who have shown ability over the last 18 months in spells like Kisnorbo, Hume, Fryatt and McAuley were always bound to feature and to be honest, I`d love to see both MF and Hume in a team that included quality players playing behind them like Fulop, N`Gotty, Clemence. Lets not forget that both MF and Hume have at times been playing in some real poor sides so its only natural that they would up there game when surrounded by better players. All we need now is for GM to get the silly obsession with playing players out of position and playing Cort in the side and we may have half a chance.

I agree , I actually think that DJ is the best striker of his type ( running beyond defenders onto balls ) at the club , Hume and Fryatt IMO seem to want to drop short and receive to feet. Yesterday l thought 3-4-3 was a great move with the wrong players what about DJ ,Hume and Fryatt in a 3-4-3 against Wolves? All that mobility should surely unsettle McCarthy's lumps at the back who love nothing better than a battle against fellow lumps.
WetFlannel Posted 30 September 2007 Posted 30 September 2007 still think we need wingers, we look so poor in those areas... im not mentioning kaebi or ferreria cos im fed up of hearing their names

All that mobility should surely unsettle McCarthy's lumps at the back who love nothing better than a battle against fellow lumps. The problem with playing two big men is that it should attract more direct football and at this level, most defenders can cope with balls in the air but struggle with pace. The main problem I see with our strikers is none are stand-out players. Hume has real quality when he drops behind the striker but none of our other strikers are good enough to really play as a target man who scores goals. Cort has done nothing, MDV has shown good things in spells, MF has come back and is looking good but nothing outstanding and DJ looks good for 20 mins and disinterested for large spells and so on. After 2 new managers and god knows how many signings, Im still not sure who to play upfront!

Blue Bob Posted 30 September 2007 Posted 30 September 2007 A million miles away from the premiership but not a million miles away from league 1. Simply p*ss poor tactics and team selection. I cant believe that he did not play form players like Fryatt and Hume because they were tired but is this true? Fryatt has only played a couple of games this season, Hume has had a bit part since Megson has been here including being taken off regularly so are they tired? Is this an excuse? Many premiership players play 50+ games in a season - Lampard played 57 for club let alone country. It was just poor tactics and team selection and Megson should take full responsibility for it instead of blaming others.
The Stig Posted 30 September 2007 Posted 30 September 2007 These players are capable, but is the manager?
WetFlannel Posted 30 September 2007 Posted 30 September 2007 i thought it was quite stupid changing the team that beat villa but he is new and needs to give people ago, ill start judging him after the first 7 games and see where he goes from there...
