mancunianfox Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 Apart from two of those strikers you mention being arguably out of position in midfield the point was made by another poster that you can play all the strikers you like but if you don't get the ball across from wide positions some will find it very hard to register, Cort being undoubtedly one of them. The other thing concerns support in numbers. One of our major problems is regarded as one of our strengths and that is the defence. They simply fail to offer any real support going forward. No wonder we concede so few but it is at great cost. I think you have to be a really great team for the defense to really support the attack in open play. Most defenses in the premiership can't and don't do that. I agree that it is the way that football should be played but you have to be an extremely good to play that style of football. Leicester need to get our midfield supporting the attack before we can think about the defense supporting it.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 Sorry mate but I disagree. There is no other side of the coin, that performance on Saturday was an absolute disgrace! And do any of you think any of the players actually care? To be honest we should have really gone on to win both of those games against Preston and Colchester even though we were shit. The standard of football in the championship is as poor as it's ever been, every team in this league is woeful. It won't take much to get promoted, all it takes is a few intelligent players that have the ability to string more than two passes together. Our main fault is we're incapable of doing that, the players in this team show such little understanding of what it takes to win a football game. Passing it back to the keeper and hoofing the ball up to Carl Cort isn’t going to win you games. We also lack any width whatsoever. I can't actually remember a decent ball put into the box in whole game. Every time Clemence and Weso play in the middle together they get beaten and outplayed in pretty much every game they've played in. Hume has become a headless Chicken and disrupts what little balance there is in the team. McAuley & kisnorbo have the footballing brains of a 4 year old. Fryatt really offers sod all, Stearman and Mattock shouldn't even be near playing at this level. Have you noticed that nobody talks out on the pitch? There's no communication, no organisation, no team work, minimal amount of effort, nobody understanding the game enough to deliver instructions to other team mates. The simplest things in the game we fail at, this why we're shit. I think that's contradictory, if the players are so shit why should they be expected to win games?

The simplest things in the game we fail at, this why we're shit. People in the game are paid thousands to provide analysis like that. If Mandaric had the football brain that many folk on here credit him with, he would have noted all of this and done something about it. After all, none of this is rocket science.
Ultra Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 I think that's contradictory, if the players are so shit why should they be expected to win games? How much are they paid compared with others in this division? Many clubs can only dream of pulling crowds of over 20000. Yet too many of our sorry bunch seem intimidated rather than inspired by such a large following. This has gone on for years. Maybe it's about time we got a shrink in to sort out the heads of these overpaid, useless fcukwits.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 The standard in the division is for the most part mediocre in my view and as others have pointed out already, there are plenty of other teams in the division that don't have any more quality than us but are usually above us in the table. Although Clemence is a better quality central midfielder than many of those that have occupied that position for a while, I still think we're a bit deficient leadership-wise on the pitch. It was particularly bad on Saturday - too many players didn't seem to know what they were supposed to be doing, and no one was even trying to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and drive things forward...a fear of responsibility, maybe? I don't know what the team are being told by the management, but I cannot believe that they were told to go out on Saturday and perform like that. The captain of the side should be taking responsibility for ensuring the management's instructions are being carried out on the pitch. There's always the possibility that the management's instructions are complete nonsense, but I think this has been a problem for a long time and through several successive managerial regimes. It doesn't explain why it's worse at home, but the results of this I think are one of the reasons for the crowd's disquiet
Master Fox Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 I think that's contradictory, if the players are so shit why should they be expected to win games? Not really. Well I personally gave up ever expecting this team to win a long time ago. It's the manner of the defeat on Saturday that has really got me riled up. I think the money they're paid to play for the club is enough for fans to expect them to at least compete to win. It's so frustrating to watch such incompetence on all levels being played out in front of you which you've paid money to watch. The fact that none of the players can even acknowledge where the problem lay is incredibly alarming. Kisnorbo in his post match interview didn't have a fcking clue! Idiot!! Some the football they played as professionals on Saturday was embarrassing. It's their attitude and approach to the games that makes them shit, and their inability to see their fundamental flaws that stops the team improving. After the first 20 odd minutes it was evident where the problems were occurring and could have quite easily be changed. If all the effort they can muster is two or three cups games in a season then it’s really no worth bothering with. If they ever decide to turn up and play as team for once then they might stand a chance of winning a few games. It’s not difficult to win a game of football at this level.
reynard Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 I would say the following are some of the many reasons we can't win at home. 1 Confidence. Our home record is so bad that it has to be playing on the minds of the players even subconciously. 2 Opposing teams. They come here and generally sit back and are well organised. We do not have or never play creative players capable of breaking down these sort of teams. 3 Our defence. for some reason seen as our strength yet how many clean sheets have we kept in the last 3 seasons? We simply do not have a good enough defence to sneak 1-0 wins on a regular basis. 4 Our strikers. Simply not anywhere near good enough. We haven't signed a decent striker since Ferdinand. Their movement is poor their first touch is inadequate and some lack the required pace to make up for their deficiencies. 5 our midfield. Simply terrible. It has to be obvious that our supposed best midfield (weso and Clemence) just can't play together. They are too similar and we just get over run. A midfiled totally lacking in height and without a strong physical presence is asking for trouble in this league. 6 Our signings. Saturday summed up the problems. With half fit players and a plethora of "strikers" being played out of position the time really should have been then for reserves and squad players to take their place. However, the fact that none were selected suggests they are simply not good enough and we should be questioning why indeed they were signed in the first place. 7 Continuing to play players out of position. 8 Tactics. Our negative approach not only transfers itself to the players but also to the fans who are not only p1ssed off but also I suspect damned bored. This results in no positive atmosphere at most home games. For the last few seasons only the 4-2 win over sheff utd and this seasons 4-1 win over Watford have got the fans going. yes it is up to the players to lift the crowd but we should all do more. (I remember Portsmouth losing 5-0? to arsenal in a live match on the bbc and their fans didn't stop singing all match.) Now their fans are not better than us but sometimes we have to try and create more of an atmosphere.

We should NEVER again play with SIX defenders in a home game as we did on Saturday. The team selection by the caretakers sent out the wrong message before we even took the field. Not sure that the Weso-Clemence partnership is THAT weak, though - Martin Allen seemed to make it work pretty well..
