Ultra Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 The players seem to play with fear at home, there really is a lack of confidence on the ball (maybe that should say lack of quality). It always seems to be an uncomfortable atmosphere to play in, the players have brought that on themselves though. Correct, they're mentally weak, and therefore aren't fit to wear the shirt. But it's telling that the ONLY manager who has tried to instill any pride and passion in the team was shown the door after just THREE league matches in charge. Our chairman has a lot to answer for..
davieG Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 I don't get this grinding out results at home against teams like Burnley, that's what we've been trying to do and failing. if we have aspirations to be in the play-offs or indeed in the premier league we need to be playing these teams off the the park not 'grinding out results'. Our whole approach to home games is all wrong, we don't play like a team that is going out to win or even believes they can win. We seem to be happy to settle for a dour battle of contrition as our main game plan and it's been like that for 3 years or more, with the exception of the Allen games. Not only is it defeatist but it's bloody boring as hell. Please, please, please MM if you do nothing else for LCFC at least get a manager in who wants to play football.
Thracian Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 It has nothing to do with the Walkers. It's to do with the team we select and the attitude we take when we go out there. How the hell can we expect to beat anyone playing what was so often a 5-4-1 at home? Or playing eight defenders. It is not as if Levein and Kelly have not demonstrated how miserably ineffective that approach is. I am utterly sick of places being contrived for favoured players. We lost yesterday because we had no effective wide players and no creative midfield players - just a centre-forward trying his best to play in midfield. We lost because we played three centre-halves when two was enough and would have allowed us to reinforce weaker areas. We lost because we never lifted the tempo of the game and put the visitors under pressure. We lost because we failed to score and we failed to score because we never got anything like enough players forward to give ourselves any realistic chances of scoring. How many shots did we have? I can hardly remember any of note and that is the ultimate condemnation of our approach and it wasn't because all our strikers are shit. They're not. Basically they had no service and no support. Do our supposed experts never learn and do they never watch how good teams attack. Look at Bayern Munich against Bolton just for an example. They had players swarming into the box - six or seven at a time. They had players who took people on. Players who challenged and stretched the opposition. Professional defences will be organised. Even we're organised in defence. The trick is to prise those defences apart by disturbing that organisation and the way to do that is with skill, speed, movement and numbers. We had none of those things. In accommodating certain players we took the field with only half the tools necessary to do the job and with some tools duplicated. In so doing we severely restricted our chances of winning from the off.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 Look at Bayern Munich against Bolton just for an example. They had players swarming into the box - six or seven at a time. A team jam-packed with the best players in the world and they couldn't beat Bolton, without Nicolas Anelka, managed by Gary Megson!

A team jam-packed with the best players in the world and they couldn't beat Bolton, without Nicolas Anelka, managed by Gary Megson! I wasn't citing the example to draw attention to the result but to the style of play. Bolton got lucky and good luck to them - especially lucky when Bayern's manager took two of his best players off - but I was pointing out the attitude towards going forward - and the sort of players they've signed to do that. Of course we cannot afford the same quality of attacker - but nor do we regularly face the same quality of opposition either. However there's nothing to stop us using or signing our own attackers and counter balancing the defensive overload we keep giving ourselves. Even with our current resources and barring any injuries I've not heard about, we could have played Hayes yesterday, and King and even perhaps had Ashley Chambers on the bench to give us the option of some genuine pace on a flank which we haven't had all season. By abandoning one centre-half and putting James Chambers at right back where many of us expected him to be, we could have had a far more adventurous line-up. We might still not have won but I doubt we'd have waited over an hour for our first worthwhile shot and the fans might at least have enjoyed watching some football which we didn't get in getting beaten in such a miserable fashion yesterday.

Agreed, the approach is wrong, especially as away teams will be abit stubborn, hence you end up having two sides both defensive minded, leading to a shit match!!!

Ipswich would have been a better example. They're not really any better than us, but the highlights on The Championship were sensational. It's James Chambers as well. Also I counted 2 shots on target. Both tame. Pathetic.
ForestFilbert Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 Watch this space and note this comment...................we will be in the play offs come the end of the season. And no, I have not been on the whacky backy!! We will do a Crystal Palace.
Brainy Posted 11 November 2007 Author Posted 11 November 2007 We will do a Crystal Palace. I hope we don't - we'll then do a Derby in the Premiership.
ForestFilbert Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 I hope we don't - we'll then do a Derby in the Premiership. Yes good point, I didn't think about that comment hard enough did I...........ok, I'll settle for staying up this season!!!

Re Chambers I made a serious attempt to drown my sorrows last night only to finally realise that sorrows float!
Koke Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 We play like an away team at our own home. Its like acting like a ****ing visitor in your own house and let the actual guests dictate everything. Our record at home is really shocking.
Tomassi Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 Heres the real reason why we dont win often at the walkers... ...the amount of fickle and moaning fans. for example if Carl Cort made one bad touch the whole crowd booed him, but if he set up a chance for someone no-one would applaud him. I am expecting a reply saying ''oh but he is sh i t'' yeah thats going to make him feel better! Yes we get the quantity of support down the City, but its the quality of support that counts. i'm not trying to say we are playing well or we got top quality players etc, but only positivity will bring the best of of the players we currently have

A bit of fairness would't go amiss.
Tomassi Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 And if Hume makes a bad pass he still gets applauded and people just say "oh well". A bit of fairness would't go amiss. Very True. it was very rediculous at the begginning of the season when Hume and De Vries were up front together. De Vries was playing better of the two at the time but the fans reactions to both players differred incredibly.
Koke Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 Maybe because Hume is our only attacking minded player who has been consistent in his performances, so therefore he can get away with making mistakes or having a poor game or two. I do agree with you though, all this slaughtering Carl Cort gets is doing him no favours at all. And plus people are ridicolously using him as a scape goat.
Floating Fox Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 Agree with what Tomassi is saying, but when it's shaun Newton, it's a different story!
davieG Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 Ok the support is poor and the fans are biased with their support (that's always been the case in the 40+ years I've been watching) but from the away games I've been to and seen us lose I haven't seen anything much better. Most home fans these days are bad. I don't see this 'home support' as an excuse for 3 home wins in the whole of 2007 when we had 9 during 2006 when the crowds were no better. Not that 9 was anything to celebrate.
Floating Fox Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 I envy Ipswich's home form. And look at there home support its awesome. *Waits for someone to say they didn't hear anything when they went there last season*
Raj Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 Everything would be better if we move the Kop to the fami........
