ASH17LCFC Posted 24 January 2008 Posted 24 January 2008 With warnock for pm on this Oasis our are Beatles. Oasis have had the biggest influence on most bands coming through. Oasis made a huge impact and still are one of the biggest band in the world and are still a huge draw. The guy who always bangs on about The Smiths, yea good band but nowhere near as big as Oasis. The Smiths are a great band but who will be remembered more OASIS OR THE SMITHS ? 9 out of 10 people would say Oasis and you know it.
Daggers Posted 24 January 2008 Posted 24 January 2008 ... face it x-factor is the beatles of your generation

The Smiths are a great band but who will be remembered more OASIS OR THE SMITHS ? 9 out of 10 people would say Oasis and you know it. Am I the guy that bangs on about The Smiths? I might be. I am A guy that bangs on about The Smiths, even if I'm not THE guy. As far as UK record sales go, Oasis will have knocked The Smiths into a cocked hat, but if record sales are what it's all about, Elton John must be best because Candle in The Wind '97 is the biggest selling single ever. But it's not that simple, is it? Music was going through a pretty dull phase when Oasis came along and it was undoubtedly a phenomenon when they did, with the massive gigs, zillions of records sold, celebrity girlfriends and meeting the PM. I got caught up in it, as did a lot of other people, but the whole thing ran out of steam after Knebworth (where do you go after a gig that big?) and the less said about 'Be Here Now' the better. I bought everything they did between 94 and 97 but haven't listened to them since, and the same goes for a lot of people my age who were in their prime at the time. So you're right - a lot of people will remember Oasis, but not necessarily with that much fondness. To me they're alright, but they're not something to get excited about now, even if they were in 1994. I've had my Smiths albums for the best part of 20 years, and I've never got bored of them
MikeyT Posted 25 January 2008 Posted 25 January 2008 Album sales and single sales is a load of crap nowadays anyway. You only have to sell about 5,000 copies of something and its a number 1! Hell, even the Teletubbies and Mr.Blobby have been number one...what does that say about the music buying public! Theres not alot of talent about these days with all the manufactered crap about, ie, X-factor. Its scary where music is heading! If indeed alot of it today can even be called music!
