My 20 year old friend has never heard of Liam Gallagher!

I often wish I hadn't heard of Liam Gallagher. He's partly responsible for me owning Be Here Now and the existence of Kasabian

I'm sure quite a lot of us wish we hadn't heard of a lot of people, but how the hell is it possible!

Presumably he did it by not reading The Sun, the NME, listening to Radio 1 or watching Top of the Pops 2.

It does seem a bit unlikely, but having said that, Oasis are hardly the superstars they were 10 years ago are they? Apart from their hardcore fans and the tabloids no ones really interested anymore

Always get one response like this. Instead of mocking, surely it would be better to put across a good argument?

Now, i neither agree nor disagree with champagne supernova. But i will say that both these bands are fantastic in their own right.

The Beatles were huge, there will never, ever, be a band as big as The Beatles in the future. Fact.

argue why the Beatles are more important/better than oasis? why waste time stating the obvious, i find the guy who posted terribly annoying and this silly nonsense he posted above just shows what a daft little boy he is. oasis are (were) a bunch of very lucky men who by imitating (badly) the stone roses (amongst others)manged to win over an audience starved of anything remotely charismatic, their fans fooled into believing them to b so - did the Beatles have to sack half the band cause they were boring/inadequate musically?

their songs are banal and derivative and lyrically rather embarrassing.

personally, i find this comparing of oasis & the Beatles laughable, they don't even sound similar??? if the Beatles made music for people in the 60s (whatever that means), then oasis made music for drunk students who had a very limited singing range

oh, & it s not mockery, i genuinely found it hilarious, that someone could think such a silly silly thing

My opinion is Oasis are better then the Beatles. For me definitely maybe is the greatest debut ever of all time. Every song is awesome but Slide Away, Live Forever, Rock 'n' Roll Star and Cigarettes & Alcohol are unbelievable songs. (What's the Story) Morning Glory? is probally the best ever of the album 90's by far and maybe the greatest album ever made. The only songs on there what are average are Hey Now and She's Electric. The rest are masterpieces in there own right.

Cast No Shadow - Awesome song only Noel could write a belter like this. Um, good

Champagne Supernova- Noel proving why he is the best musican in the world here. - again :crylaugh: Even got big in america this song did.

Some Might Say - Somes up oasis and them at there best.

and then you got the likes Wonderwall  , Don't look back in anger (you've obviously never heard 'streets of London' - same chords, shame...) and Roll with it. What where all massive hits and still are 3 of the biggest songs ever made. :|:|

96 was the year Oasis where the kings of music and Knebworth proved it. No band in the world would had got 2.5 million applying to buy tickets.

The Masterplan album a album full of B-sides is again one of my favourite ever albums. Every track on it is something speical.

The beatles a band what did it in the 60's and fair play to them, they made cheesey pop songs and back then what people where into. The beatles though in my opinion are not better then oasis. Oasis would be better to see live then the Beatles. :|

Come on Rock and Roll star or Hey jude ??? Morning glory or Let it be ?? Oasis are the best band in the world today. No other band has came close to topping what they did and even today Oasis can sell out anywhere in the world and get their singles or albums straight in at number 1.

silly silly boy, enjoy oasis, but don't be so spectacularly naive

Its all about opinions in music. There's no fact what says The beatles are better then Oasis are they ?

correct but you claimed in your first post that oasis are better than the beatles as if it were a fact. :dunno:

Would it not be easier to just say "I much prefer the music of Oasis to the Beatles"?

It's impossible to say (even in IMO) that A is better than B. They were from different eras. It's like comparing Sir Stanley Matthews and Ryan Giggs.

I think alot of people dont like Oasis because of the stereotypical blokes who buys their records, i.e Manc Hooligans. So people turn their nose up at this and try and rubbish them and instead listen to mellow indie drivel, trying to convince themselves they are music connoisseurs ! Oasis were one of the best bands in the world (check record sales between 94-97), they were also one of the most important bands ever created, influencing many of todays indie bands. I think Brandon Flowers said once that he went to see Oasis live and was so influenced by Noel Gallagher that he decided to play an instrument himself. Sure, they havnt created many decent records since 97, but I dont think they can be simply dismissed like in the way they have in earlier posts in this thread. They still are an amazing band live, and if anyone can give me a better example of a debut album than Definitely Maybe, then i will show you a lier. Back to the original argument, Beatles v Oasis. 60's v 90's. Mods v Rockers. Its peoples personal preferences. Both two of the most important British bands ever, and both having huge influences on different generations and societies. But without the Beatles there would be no Oasis.

I wonder if his mate has heard of the Beatles?

I think it's evolved into a debate about whether Oasis are significant or not

Pfft, losers, the lot of ya. Reverend and the makers are better than the both. Open your window. :worship:

 Has he lived under a rock all his life?

I found it staggering he'd never heard of him. How is that possible!? Still in shock actually.

He had to go and look him up on Wikipedia after copping some stick. Amazing.

So you're telling me he never watches Shameless?

I was joking about the revered and the makers being better, obviously not, but nowadays i'd rather listen to him than oasis. They bore me now, same old.

Oasis are way better then The Beatles. The Beatles are good but they made music for people in the 60's and also Oasis made 2 of the best albums ever made. Noel Gallagher is the biggest legend in music today and there'll never be another Liam Gallagher.

Oasis are our generations Beatles (I'm 15)...

no-one can deny the Beatles genius, but Oasis are pretty darn good aswell.

ps... you may be confused as to why i'm on here with my username - well i'm just after a bit of banter before our match on monday!

If you like their music fair enough??? But they are over-rated and hardly innovative... not bad for a group who borrows' on the music of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. To me, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, Beatles, Stones, Velvet Underground, The Cure, Joy Division, New Order, The Band, Fairport Convention were all more innovative and better than Oasis. I hate Oasis as everybody listened to them at Uni, but to me Liam and Noel, although having talent, had such bad attitude problems who wouldn't give people the time of day !!

After looking him up on Wikipedia, he claimed he had heard of Oasis.

However, he couldn't give the name of any songs, or even sing or hum a single line. Further ripping commenced.

Hahahahahahahaha! :crylaugh:

He told me his mum is a "gold digger" lol

So he's heard of KanYe West then?

LLF mate - everything I was thinking, though the list of "more innovative bands than Oasis" is not nearly long enough (but you wouldn't want to do a Fez now!)

Oasis are a band who released a brilliant debut album and gradually declined. The Beatles are seriously overrated too. None were brilliant individually - but they were well put together and marketed. Can't deny them their place in history.
