Finnegan Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 Is, when he wants to be, the most talented midfielder playing for the home nations. Fact. Shame about our back four, manager, tactics, attendances, world ranking, defensive midfielder and arguably goalkeeper.
Micky Ruddle Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 Koumas. Wasted at Wigan. Depserate to play in the Prem. Koumas for Leicester.
Finnegan Posted 17 November 2007 Author Posted 17 November 2007 1 man team.More than you was 5 years ago Five years ago we were just round the corner from shafting the Azzuri and going top of our qualifying group. Koumas. Wasted at Wigan. Depserate to play in the Prem.Koumas for Leicester. I dunno, massive bias aside, he's never really delivered in the Prem - I have to be honest with myself. But watching him play today he was absolutely fantastic, he's such a prima dona it's unreal but when his heart's genuinely in it he's one of the most inventive, beautifully passing players I've ever gotten to watch.
Nath Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 Five years ago we were just round the corner from shafting the Azzuri and going top of our qualifying group. Ok, i'll let you off
Lord Nibblington Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 Jason Koumas looks like my old Uni housemate. Fact.
Finnegan Posted 17 November 2007 Author Posted 17 November 2007 Jason Koumas looks like my old Uni housemate.Fact. He must have been one HANDSOME devil.
Lord Nibblington Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 He must have been one HANDSOME devil. Well. That is one way of looking at it, I suppose.
Bert Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 Koumas would be good at Everton. The clubs he's been at are a very poor reflection on the player's ability to be fair.
Finnegan Posted 17 November 2007 Author Posted 17 November 2007 Koumas would be good at Everton. The clubs he's been at are a very poor reflection on the player's ability to be fair. We've got a number of players like Koumas, really. Earnshaw and Bellamy are another pair - when they're on form you can't understand, watching them, why they've never really stuck at better clubs. Certainly looking at the record of Earnshaw, there's no clues to his relative failure at a higher level. I think a lot of it comes down to attitude, Koumas is clearly a fairly difficult man to work with who seems to like to think of himself as a central part of the team. An Everton, a Tottenham or a Pompey sort of side that would stick him in the middle and not on the wing, and let him try and boss a good, passing game of football would likely get the best of him.
Bert Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 I think we all knoe Bellamy's attitude is why he doesnt stay at decent clubs for long.
Finnegan Posted 17 November 2007 Author Posted 17 November 2007 I think we all knoe Bellamy's attitude is why he doesnt stay at decent clubs for long. Exactly. One of the most self destructive people in world sport, really. Tragic, really.

Tevez Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 Koumas deserves to be at a better club than Wigan. I have respect for this chap.
The Reverend Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 Factoid, monkeyface. Theres a reason he's played a lot of his career outside of the premiership, sonshine. The lads a decent player im not disputing that, but to say what you've said is laughable. Totally laughable. No need to be rascist either.
Finnegan Posted 17 November 2007 Author Posted 17 November 2007 Who's the competition? I'll grant you Steven Gerrard, other than that... PS: Racist? What?
The Reverend Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 Who's the competition? I'll grant you Steven Gerrard, other than that...PS: Racist? What? Monkeyface. Anyway, Lampard. And dont say he is'nt, because you know he is.
Finnegan Posted 17 November 2007 Author Posted 17 November 2007 I'm going to risk major, major ridicule (well, not really, because I doubt anyone's got the evidence to prove me right or wrong, including me(!)) here and go massively out on a limb. I'm going to say that Koumas, on form, has been far more creative, displayed far better touch and skills passing, shooting and generally distributing for his country than Lampard ever has. I'd like to point out that, due to Koumas' attitude, his lazyness and his general talent for underachieving I don't ACTUALLY think he's the best midfielder on the planet or anything. But on his day, trust me on this one, the boy is special. Edit: Since when is calling you a monkey being racist?

Anyway, football is all about opinions and thats yours fair enough. I disagree with it though! I totally agree that Koumas is a very good player and i like him, BUT he just is not in the same class as the Lampards or the Gerrards even on his day. Theres a reason these 2 players are captains etc of their top 4 teams and score goals by the hatful - because they are a different class. Koumas was in fact on the books of Liverpool with Gerrard as they are around the same age, wether you knew that or not i dont know. Gerrard has said 'give Koumas a kick and hes out of the game', or words to that effect. He has a bad attitude agreed, but there are plenty of players who had bad attitudes and still went on to be world class. So that is not really an excuse. As i've said, the reason Gerrard stayed at Liverpool and is now catain, is because he is world class. The reason Koumas went on to teams such as Tranmere, WBA, Cardiff and Wigan, is because...well.......he's not world class! Sorry Finnegan! Edit: And as for Koumas being more effective for his country than Lamps... well how can you say that has Koumas ever been to a major international tournament, because thats where it counts.

Started out at Tranmere. Prem football at WBA Then fell out with WBA hence the loan to Cardiff Prem football with Wigan. Like i said earlier, i think he'd do well at somewhere like Everton, especialy under Moyes.

But in the same class as the Gerrards and the Lampards?
Milky Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 You're the ignorant one Finners if you're putting Koumas in that class.
ASH17LCFC Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 Best player in the championship last year and would do well at a mid table side but if he went to the big 4. He would be fook all. Best welsh player though but thats not saying alot.
Finnegan Posted 18 November 2007 Author Posted 18 November 2007 I'd personally dispute Lampard's credentials as 'world class'. I think he consistently underachieves for his country, he's playing football competitively in a top-four club and really getting a chance to shine and I think we see his best at Chelsea. But it's made easy by the multi-bzllion pound superstars around him. England, though they have a good squad, don't have that immense degree of talent and Lampard, when he plays, is expected to carry the team. I watch most of your internationals and I can't say I can remember him ever pulling that off. I'd like to reiterate again that I'm genuinely not claiming Koumas is world class or indeed the out and out best midfielder in Britain but that he is, on his day capable of absolute, undeniable, match-running class that I really don't think enough people give him due credit for. And, aye, he hasn't always been this good - Tranmere are no Liverpool and he didn't set the world alight at WBA, either. But I think he's really developed later in his career and in the right frame of mind his vision and touch are just brilliant. If I were a manager to pick a real squad I'd almost certainly have Lampard and not Koumas because he's a million times more consistent, experienced and hard working. Hence his value, his current club and his countless medals. But if I were to piece together a hypothetical dream team? I'd have the Koumas that turned up today over Lampard any day. Takes a much better free kick, too.
