Thracian Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Certainly am going. It will doubtless be a tough match but they're usually good value. Takes your mind off the worries concerning the first team too.
Bert Posted 12 December 2007 Author Posted 12 December 2007 OS doesn't say yet. I'm sure we'll soon find out, with an in-depth report from our one and only Thracian.
Thracian Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 An early goal by left-winger Robbie Burns was enough to put Leicester City through to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup against Blackburn Rovers at The Walkers this evening. Burns' simple fifth minute sidefoot from a first time set-up by Kee was nicely worked but this was no vintage performance from City. There was none of their much appreciated flamboyance. Instead Beaglehole, who knows what it's like to lose playing well in the competition, presided over an evening of functional football which did Just The Job and no more. City were particularly negative second half when Blackburn might well have equalised from one of two pinpoint crosses which left big centre-back Gavin Gunning with headers from a few yards but on both occasions his connection went high and wide. They were also close to an equaliser when City centre-back almost headed into his own goal. The occasion offered City first team followers a rare chance to see prolific Academy scorer Billy Kee but in the end he was a bit disppointing. He did have chances early on. One clever turn gave him a brilliant chance but he totally mishit his volley and, again, a smooth move by Burns and Ashley Chambers gave him an excellent opportunity but he shot over. Offside cost him a goal when Chambers put him through and he rounded the keeper and five minutes from time he turned his marker brilliantly but failed to beat the keeper in a one-on-one from an angle. Robbie Burns probably deserved man of the match simply for scoring the vital goal but for his 90-minute performance, right back Lee Cox probably pushed him close. Blackburn had wingers well capable of delivering good crosses - as their steady stream of corners and free-kicks demonstrated but Cox neutralised a clever winger in Michael Connor and invariably let him he'd been around when he did it. Good result but forgettable performance watched by a decent crowd of about 300 I'd guess.
Nath. Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Spot on, Few chances on goal for either side. Our keeper looked shocked though when the long range effort came in and he parried it up and out for a corner!
Mark Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Well done, especially as they've gone out in the first round against lower league opposition the past few seasons, about time we had a decent run in this competition. I see Jorrin John made it onto the bench.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 We had some decent chances in the first half but were under pressure for most of the second. Solid defensive displays from Rowe-Turner and Garner at centre back and Lee Cox, who got more involved as the game wore on, at right back. Not the greatest performance to be honest but it's the result that matters in the cup and we got the job done so can't complain.
onesize Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 You have palace in the next round. We beat Hull 1-0 yesterday in what seems an identical type match that you had today. Id guess you will get through, we have some quality players but the fact that we have injuries and the team hasnt really played together this season will be our downfall i think. We have 4 players in the team that have played first team football this season (Scannell, Bostock, Hills and Moses) and a couple of key players injured (Smith and Dayton). May the best team win.
Tevez Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 I'm going to this, i want to see Victor Moses and John Bostock.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Victor Moses v Ashley Chambers. Tasty. We should play Mattock.
onesize Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Moses is injured, ill doubt very much he will be back in time for this match which i presume is early jan. Bostock should play and ran the show yesterday.
Thracian Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Well done, especially as they've gone out in the first round against lower league opposition the past few seasons, about time we had a decent run in this competition. I see Jorrin John made it onto the bench. Funny game football. I remember us playing some cracking football at times against Huddersfield one time yet we lost. Tonight's was a game which became increasingly more boring and the second half reminded me of the first team on countless occasions even to the point where the kids were running down time in the corner. I wasn't impressed to be honest but as some will doubtless say, what's it matter how you play if you win?
