Bojimha Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 Hi all, A while ago I sold a cheap mobile phone case on ebay as it was the worst one of the two I'd previously brought. A guy from Leicester won it and I told him it would be in the post the next day then later on he said he was actually in Coventry (where i unfortunately reside) that day for work and asked if he could pick it up one his way back home to avoid postage costs (of 99p?!?). I agreed and at 6:30pm (to the second) the guy turns up and i answered the door with case in hand. I handed it to him and instead of handing over the measly £3 straight away he decides to bring it up to within an inch of his eyes and inspect it very very thoroughly as if it was a diamond ring or something. This was a little bit freaky and then after a minute of awkwardness he agrees it is 'not too bad' and hands me the £3 (in 6 50p's) and proceeds to talk to me and make random chat for about 5 minutes (even though it is pissing it down and he is getting wet). Part of me was thinking he was waiting for some kind of invite inside the house but there was no way this freak was coming anywhere near my living room. I was too polite to just shut the door on his face and he continued to chat about his other purchases he had got on ebay and all the nice people he had met going into LOTS of irrelevant detail. Eventually I think he got the hint I wasn't interested and left (after a really strong handshake, the type you would give to a good friend you weren't going to see again for a long time). Part of me wishes i'd have avoided this whole experience as the weirdness was not worth the £3! Now I have a lot more stuff that has built up that I want to get rid of but part of me wants to make sure I never have this kind of contact with weirdo's again so I may rule out collections in person! Anyone else had and strange encounters with ebay members?
Bryn Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 Might have been tryin to rob you or summat :locked:
Bojimha Posted 15 January 2008 Author Posted 15 January 2008 that did cross my mind but he seemed like a guy that lived with his mum. He was middle aged seemed pretty intelligent and reasonably well spoken and had a very very small frame (could not have weighed more than 9 stone max) and his mannerisms where quite articulate but quite bizarre at the same time. I know you can't really stereotype what a burglar looks like but I really can't imagine him to have been one.

Geo V Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 That was the blokes only opportunity to contact with the real world. You heartless sod should have invited him in for tea
Bojimha Posted 15 January 2008 Author Posted 15 January 2008 Sounds like he was grooming you possibly, though I am 24, 6"2 and pretty big built! Not the type these guys usually look for That was the blokes only opportunity to contact with the real world. You heartless sod should have invited him in for tea ha ha, that's the impression I got, it seemed as if he wanted me to be his new best mate. He seemed like the type of person that has worked for a company for 30 years but no one in the office knows his name and this was his opportunity to make new mates!
coale39 Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 Bought a freeview box off ebay a few months for it. Still ant payed for it. Sent the money via paypal, then month layer got the money back. I emailed her saying can she send me her address so I can send her the cheque, and she still hasn't replyed (ive emailed and messaged her like 4 times). She hasn't left any feedback either. Strange... but good!
cisono Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 Eventually I think he got the hint I wasn't interested and left (after a really strong handshake, the type you would give to a good friend you weren't going to see again for a long time). I was expecting something more like "a really strong handshake, the type you would give at a job interview" You would give your good friend a mere handshake?

Daggers Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 I'm still waiting for a box of Dr Who cards I bought for the kids back on Boxing Day. The seller is being a right twat about it so I've put in a complaint to Paypal - I don't buy or sell anything without it going through Paypal...and if someone wants to collect it they still have to pay through Paypal within 48 hours.
coale39 Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 Did you get the freeview box? Yeah straight away! Its probably cursed. Those gypises were near the stadiam when I received it. Couincidence? No.
Joe. Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 Why are so many Ebayers morons? Why, why bid when there's two bids already placed and over 50 minutes to go? Fools.
