Suffolk_fox Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 BBC Report Youtube clip What I would give for a City player with this level of skill. He was doing step overs before Christiano Ronaldo was even thought of!
Alexikokopops Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 I remember reading a Tim Vickery column on the BBC Sport site saying hat in Brazil he's viewed as their greatest ever player, well above Pele.
MC Prussian Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 Reading about his childhood and his illnesses (deformations and one leg being shorter than the other), football gave him a way out of misery. Looking at the videos, it's obvious how he enjoyed playing the sport. Classy technique, ace turnarounds. He wasn't the tallest and thus had a lower centre of gravity. But then alcohol ruined it all. Oh, well.
davieG Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 I saw him play in 66. Not at his best obviously but you could tell he had some class.

Yeah he is seen as the people's hero. There is an element of the inevitable veneration of the 'flawed genius' in it, but apparently he won the world cup all but single handedly in 62.
