stez Posted 6 April 2005 Posted 6 April 2005 Unfortunately, given the position we're in, and our lack of goals, fans are getting frustrated and it seems de Vries is not being afforded any patience. 78510 He did his chances no good yesterday. Craig Levein is often quoted as saying he can play in the Premiership. WORRYING 78512 What Premiership is Levein talking about. He couldnt be that confused, or could he. 88608 he could play in the prem, just not very well judging by his performances so far
Vo Rogue Posted 6 April 2005 Posted 6 April 2005 I think it' more than just confidence - it looks more like a case of lack of ability. It can't be disputed that he hasn't got any pace, this would be okay if he could win the ball in the air, but his timing is way off most times and he can't get up very high. The man cannot jump.Maybe we should send him over to Leicester Riders for some training... 88471 Unfortunately, given the position we're in, and our lack of goals, fans are getting frustrated and it seems de Vries is not being afforded any patience. 78510 He did his chances no good yesterday. Frenzied Posted 6 April 2005 Posted 6 April 2005 Because of his size 6 ft 6 he looks ODD against a 5' 10 bloke. This was the same with ORM!!!He does not look elegant No, but effective and a pain to defend against. To be honest he needs a few goals just like Connelly to get confident. Leave it out hes played 11 games and wasnt a £5m man! 88460 I agree totally. He doesn't look elegant apart from when the ball's at his feet and what he can do to turn players in pretty special. I think wait until next season to judge him fully. I have a feeling he'll score quite a few goals.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 6 April 2005 Posted 6 April 2005 Leave it out hes played 11 games88460 15 games. 88478 He's only started 7 of them and he started 3 of them upfront on his own. That's not easy for any striker. I've seen a few signs of encouragement from him in the last couple of games and I'm confident that he'll look better next season.
dynamite foxes Posted 6 April 2005 Posted 6 April 2005 I remeber the first game I saw of his. He came of the bench and was a right handful he nearly scored twice probably should of. But i agree connolly is the best player to play with and they haven't played topgether for very long. But I think we need a pacy striker to play with, one that is intelligent too, connolly has no brain!

His movement off the ball is far superior to any other player in his position. He was perhaps drifting out too wide in previous games, but that was because he wanted to receive the ball and make things happen. He's very sharp and does get himself in to plenty of goalscoring opportunities. His link up play can be very slick sometimes too, especially with Hughes and Williams.
Ric Flair Posted 7 April 2005 Posted 7 April 2005 De Vries scored alot of goals in Scotland and before you say how crap scottish football is, he also scored goals against Braga and Basle in europe! I think he's either very lucky and blagged his way at Hearts and his luck has just ran out or he, like many players at Leicester are suffering from lack of form, confidence and rub of the green. Seen alot worse, Benjamin, Blake and Scowcroft.
dynamite foxes Posted 7 April 2005 Posted 7 April 2005 There must be something there otherwise why would Levein have bought him. he has bought extremely wel (Macca, Maybury, Hughes) and so he obviously feels there is something there. I am in full support of the managemnt there is a bit of hunger about the play. I think next season we will do well. I think importantly as well we play good football and De Vries is a decent footballer from what I have seen in training. He still seems a bit unfit though.

It's easy to make a mistake as a manager e.g. Martin O'Neill - fatboy Fenton (£1m), Gunnlaugsson (£2m); Peter Taylor - Akinbiyi; Ranieri - Crespo (for Chelsea); Mourinho - Drogba; Moyes - Beattie
dynamite foxes Posted 7 April 2005 Posted 7 April 2005 Yes but generally when you buy a player from a club that the manager has been at, they have some talent. You give him a cahnce. Don't judge him yet, give a pre-season and I think he will do well
Stuliasz Posted 7 April 2005 Posted 7 April 2005 And with my 400th post I declare Marc de Vries the next Henry!
jordo11 Posted 14 April 2005 Posted 14 April 2005 i think he is a good player and he will eventually settle in and start scoring people are not giving him chance
HeartsFan Posted 14 April 2005 Posted 14 April 2005 The only problem with De Vries is that he was never physically fit at Hearts and has a bit of a weight problem. He also likes the nightlife....... a lot. If he loses a stone he'll be dynamite, if not he'll be pretty frustrating.

I quite disagree on the highlighted lot... Gunnlaugsson hardly ever got a chance and he did score some vital goals for us with his free kicks. Crespo's record at Chelsea wasn't bad (10 goals in 19 starts was it?), but of course by Hasselbaink standards the previous seasons he wasn't as good. He's been immense at Milan this season though, and I wonder if Mourinho will want him back. Drogba is a great signing IMO...he's physically the best attacker I've seen in a long long time. The way he bossed around with the Bayern defenders in both legs was nothing short of impressive. He's going to be a big threat the next few seasons! And finally Moyes and Beattie... alright, James' got off to a poor start, but he's only been there for 4 months!! Give the guy some time...He's shown he can be a quality Premiership striker, maybe he'll turn out bad, but 4 months is a bit early to start judging him!
