Anyone just watch it on channel 4?

Very very clever.

Still leaves alot to be explained though and if you watched it you'll know what i mean (how did he do that thing with the 4 people? and how did he know the last horse would win?)

the 4 people thing is tough to explain, the last bit is easy (ish) he placed money on all the horses, and (unseen to us) took the ticket from her (to make sure she didn't rip it) and just handed her the winning one back.....i reckon.

anyway, i'm looking for 7000 people to help me with a system i've worked out!

Yeah i've just been discussing it in the betting thread.

Some of the stuff he did in the programme, I.e - As you said with the 4 people was unbelievable.

And at first I was amazing with his 10 heads in a row...Until his explained he was flipping the coin for 9 hours...Eventually/Chances are/Probabilty wise of course your likly to throw 10 heads in a row...I learnt that at school.

But I could have come up with that winning system, If you get 6 people, Tell each one of them to bet on one horse, one of them will win, simple as, hardly a system really.

I was saying in the betting thread, I really like Derren Brown some of the stuff he does is mindblowing, but the actually point and main part of this programme is a big let down

That sincerely annoyed me.

Clearly we all the new the system would be a load of cods wollop, otherwise there would be no place for bookies lol

i disagree i dont think its a letdown. he disguises very simple logic beneath a coat of mystery and suspense, leading you to believe that what he is doing is actually incredible. thats what is clever, the fact that he can 'hide' really easy things because you dont expect it. its all a show in the end, he wants you to believe that there really is a system and when you first watch it thats what you do believe.

the programme, though, was less about a betting system, and more about showing how closed peoples' minds can be on all subjects, like he said with the alternative 'medicines' if enough people 'feel' an effect, out of the medicine makers 10,000,000 people trial (say 10%) then they have a 'working' 'medicine'

we were duped by our desire to have a working system, for him the system did work, use enough people, then narrow the scope and you have a programme.

TBH it just proves what everyone knows (Even though we carry on betting) that the bookies are always the winners, Fair enough that women has won £13,000 (And probably about £1,600 in her smaller bets before the last big bet) but if you added all the money the other 7,999 people had bet i'm sure it wouldn't be far off what she won.

I tried not to build my hopes up (but failed as I was disappinted near the end!) as it defided all logic. As we saw on one of the races, the horses falling down, there are too many varables. If it was a system on something mathmatical like roulette I would have got excited! Come on Darren I dare you.

he always has some under hand tactic though, like the chess thing, where he had people believing he was playing and beating the best chessists in the world, when, in fact he was doing it so that they were playing each other, through him....!

I've had things in the post about betting systems. One they don't tell you the horse until the day and they printed a list of past winners. My first thought is why tell other people that you have a no-lose system instead of winning it all yourself. BTW the one I'm thinking of costs about 300 quid to register.

Spinning a coin is 50/50 and over a long period of time it breaks even as well as having long sessions of heads or tails. In poker in the short run a bad player can beat a good player with any two cards but over a long period the player that can calculate odds and knows when he is more than 50/50 will win. Bad players chase cards when the odds are gainst them.

I totally agree. I saw him live a few years back and even then I had that very impression.

When you first see him do something, it seems unbelievable.

So much so that I have still got a signed prop from his show (a flipchart A1 sheet which he did a jaw-dropping mathematical thingie on) on my office wall.

The bookies know when to Hedge a bet!

Can someone explain exactly what he did?

Didn't see it?

Basically Derren Brown made you believe he had a guarenteed winning system, He made you believe he'd picked one person from random sent her 4 tips via e-mail, on the 5th she was sent to a racecourse, she placed £150 on the horse she'd been tipped, After the race she met the person who anonymously has been sending her the e-mails, It was Derren Brown, He then said right, I'll give you one more final tip, and I want you to scrape every penny you can find and place it all on this one horse, Anyway she went away and borrowed a grand of her dad, and got 3 more grand from a loan, She went back and Derren then placed the bet for her on this last race, he then explained his system to her and us

Basically it started with him sending an e-mail to 8,000 people, He split these 8,000 people into 6 groups, He gave each group a different horse in the e-mails he was sending, Race by race he lost a group 5 groups, He then did the same spliting the remaining people into another 6 groups, he did it till he had 1 person left, this one person then put the 4 grand on one horse, and it won, but think that was fixed tbh, Derren told her to bet on this one horse but he placed the bet, they went to watch the race and the horse he'd told her finished 4th (She still thought that was the horse she'd bet on) then after the race he took her betting slip and i'm sure he switched the betting slips in his hand.

So basically there is no system, Of course even I could tell you if I told 6 people to bet on a race with 6 horses running and told each one of them to bet on a different horse, One of them would win....Not rocket science.

To be fair on Derren though the part when he get the four people and got them to match the same picture and intial's, e.t.c, was pretty amazing.

I'd explain that bit but its abit hard to explain.

Thought it was pants and very disappointing. Liked all he previous stuff and was looking forward to last night, but felt cheated at the end.

For a moment at end thought he'd redeemed himself a bit with secretly betting on the winner, but then, like stez says, reckon he just bet on all 6.

Better next time Derren please!
