Thats brilliant :D

Does anyone else think that this poor guy is being a little hard done to? He never said that e should introduce Shariah Law at all, only that we should try to understand it. And anyway, who cares what he says? He is basically a beardy kiddy fiddler.

Beardy Kiddie Fiddler.. maybe.

But I don't care what he said about Sharia law, it's more he want a multi tiered legal system (including Catholic adoption agencies being able to refuse homosexual couples). You cannot live in a country with a pick and choose legal system!

I hadn't read that. But he was only making suggestions, having an opinion. I don't agree with what he has said in that case, but his position is not one of real power or influence, certainly not in the way that it was many years ago. He is, like everybody else, entitled to be a prat.

I wish the media would report things right. Not a religious person myself but according to this morning news the story stems from a long speech and is a short extract. It seems that what he said may have been thought too wordy for the ordinary person so was interpretted by the media and put into laymans terms. This in turn was simplified even further by the Sun's editors for its own readers. So from a 20 page carefully constructed and thoughtful speech we are left with something like, ' Muslims laws should be British laws.' Says Archbishop. A perfect headline for the already converted Muslim and Bishop bashers. :D

Easily the best headline ever :D

I agree he's entitled to his opinion but anyone with half a brain cell could have told him the uproar that this would have caused. I think the term he used was that it was 'inevitable/unavoidable' that some elements of sharia law would need to / become recognised within britain.

Plus, I'm not a great legal mind myself but since when was even discussing ammendments to the legal system the remit of the archbishop of canterbury?

Like I said, I know he just said we can maybe work in some Sharia family law to work in parallel with ours... but still pandering to any faith so they have a different set of rules to abide by is just wrong!

Not for a few hundred years. Seriously.

Although it isn't a headline from a newspaper, I think this is better...

He's a member of the House of Lords by virtue of his office, as are a number of other bishops.

So changes in the law are within his remit. Whether they should be is another matter.
