I hate universities

Recommended Posts

F*** em all! Having an extremely bad morning thanks to sodding universities. I applied last year to 6 separate universities and got 5 offers. Unfortunately though the course I wanted to get onto wanted AAA and I only managed AAB plus an A for General studies. But not to worry as I was taking a gap year so I was able to reapply. But the bloody course I wanna get onto this year, which wants AAB, has rejected me, despite the fact that I've been up to the university (in my own time), applied extremely early and also have the grades. It's really pissing me off as my back ups also rejected me. I dunno what to do now.

Sorry about the depressing and probably boring post, I'm just annoyed

What are you looking to study and where.

Thanks you two! I guess it's partly my fault as last year I got 5 acceptances and this year only applied to 3 courses. Don't know what my options are now to be honest. Apparently if I have been rejected with the grades I have a right to know why, but I don't know whether it can be changed. I just think the whole university system is so long winded. I applied to Durham and its quite ironic as last year I got a conditional offer and this year at Durham with a less popular course I got rejected. Good luck to you Lisa!

Edit-Oh and Steven the course is a social sciences course which I was hoping would allow me to study Geography, Psychology and Anthropology together.

Well if there are decent courses elsewhere then I would get on the phone directly to them.;) Good luck I hope you get somewhere. B)

Dont worry about Durham that much, they are a very 'up themselves' Uni IMO. It wouldnt surprise me if they rejected you just because you decided not to take up a place with them last year.

I'm currently doing Sociology (in my third year grrr) and I did some Anthropology in my first year (in fact theres some involved in my dissertation this year) and found it quite enjoyable. I did go for a look around Swansea when I was applying and thought that it looked an excellent place to study Social Sciences and also have some fun. I actually ended up going elsewhere but I thought it looked like a really neat place to study...

Good luck... :D

Thanks again everyone for the support and advice. Simon- Anthropology is a subject which Im really interested in but unfortunately there are very fews places that do it. Also because it's a new subject to me I couldn't fully commit myself to doing a straight Anthropology course in case I didn't enjoy it. Therefore I chose to apply for a combined course which are more difficult to find!

I'm quite surprised they are that few and far between although I think its mainly cause you have 3 rather than 2 combined subjects (and one of those subjects is Geography which I havent heard of combined with Psych AND Anth).

I am sure you could change after one year if you wanted to- I started off doing Archaaeology and Anthropology (which actually consisted off Archaeology, Social Anthropology, Biological Anthropology and Sociology) and changed to Socal and Political Sciences (specialising in Sociology) after a year. Although I guess it does depend on the Uni to a certain extent. I presume by Anthropology you are talking about Social Anthropology? Certainly it depends on the institutions teaching. For the first two years Cambridges Social Anthropology teaching is very much the 'classics' which I did not find in the least bit interesting (and may be similar at Durham although I'm not sure). The more modern stuff is where its at IMO. Although granted you have to understand past Anthropology to fully understand what is happening in the present, a lot of the older texts are fairly dry.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do!
