Babylon Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 Spoken like a true forum leader! I lead the city one only... so I can be as stupid as I want in here.
Uncle Albert Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 Anyone been skiing in Bulgaria? If so which is best and why: Bansko Borovets Pamporova Any info welcome. Also anyone know where I can get a Bulgarian language CD? My cousin went when he was at Uni and he liked it. Only went skiing for 2 of the 5 days he was there because the drink is so cheap out there.

When I went out there three years ago I found so many of the out-of-town houses had their own orchards and that the locals would ply you with their home made rakia, and damn good stuff it was too. Even in the coastal cities of Bourgas and Varna (or Byala) food and drink was cheap and I'd imagine it was even more so inland and around the ski centres. Hope to find out next winter, hic!
Head Honcho Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 Anyone been skiing in Bulgaria? If so which is best and why: Bansko Borovets Pamporova Any info welcome. Also anyone know where I can get a Bulgarian language CD? All three have been mentioned when dicussing where to buy a property abroad.
Thracian Posted 21 February 2008 Author Posted 21 February 2008 All three have been mentioned when dicussing where to buy a property abroad. Each of the resorts has it's own character from what I can gather and it's a matter of deciding which suits the best. There seems to be so much happening there. Communication is getting easier and there's even a new motorway due to be built soon from Sofia to the ski areas which should reduce travel times. All the usual infrastructure is going in too and there are great efforts being made to build golf courses and make the ski resorts year-round destinations. All the kids in school seem to be learning English which is already a great help in the tourist parts of a country which uses the Cyrillic alphabet and where even finding your way around can be a problem, particularly if you're daft enough to drive into the countryside at night, which isn't encouraged and for good reason.

James. Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 I did a fair amount of research as I was considering buying a property out there with a mate. We didn't in the end because of 1. laziness and 2. the likelihood that we had probably missed the boat in terms of achieving quick capital growth. From what I read Bansko is the most established of the resorts although it may have lost some of its appeal as an alternative away from the crowded slopes of the Alps. Pamporovo or however you say it is definitely less busy but may lack some of the infrastructure. For a man such as yourself Thracian I would say the latter is your best bet.
