Simi Posted 22 March 2008 Posted 22 March 2008 Ok, I've just been looking at the table and the teams that are struggling. I noticed one thing about the teams that are in around our posistion. Bar the two that are below us. Teams such as Sheff Wednesday, Coventry, Southampton possibly even Norwich are all down here. In recent years they have all been in the Premiership and certainly now they're in this league, they all have the same aim. Promotion back to the Prem. Obviously with the takeover the expectation level was really high and a lot of people were optimistic about this season. Then you compare that to the likes of Coventry who've just got a new stadium after being relegated, Southampton have a reasonably new stadium as well. All these clubs have the same levels of optimism as each other yet continue to under achieve. I'd also say that clubs like ourselves are still branding ourselves with the "we're better than you 'cos of our past" tag and it's quite obvious that we're not. At the end of the day the table doesn't lie. Teams such as Bristol, Plymouth and now Hull have all commented on it, look where they are in the table, not bad for a "small run-of-the-mill side" Then you look up at the other end of the table and see the likes of Bristol City, newly promoted. Would have gone into this season probably just wanting to stay up and be around mid table. They've had realistic targets, met them and then pushed on to improve further. Hull as well, fighting relegation last year, probably wanted mediocrity this year, but they've proved everyone else wrong as well. Similar stories with sides like Stoke and Plymouth too I'd think. None of these teams really have household names, just a well built morale within a hardworking side. I'm not trying to say we're in the shit 'cos we used to be a half decent side and now we're not. Just showing a correlation between sides that have been in a similar place to us. Leaving themselves setting targets to high and failing miserably whilst losing the heart and soul of the club trying to keep up with what's expected.
PAULCFC Posted 22 March 2008 Posted 22 March 2008 Good post!I only got a season ticket the year we got dumped out of the prem 2004?I've seen it go down hill season after season,so the teams that come up from the old third division have something too prove and find themselves being not at all out of their depth in it and with the confidence of being promoted the season before kick on.

Asha Posted 22 March 2008 Posted 22 March 2008 Ahh sorry. Guess that's what happens when you ignore people's posts. No problem. A lot of threads look the same anyway.
C-man Posted 22 March 2008 Posted 22 March 2008 No problem. A lot of threads look the same anyway. You mean like every thread turning into an 'Ollie - Should he stay or should he go?' topic?
Simi Posted 23 March 2008 Author Posted 23 March 2008 What do you mean connection... A connection between the clubs that are struggling down at the bottom and why they are.
DB11 Posted 23 March 2008 Posted 23 March 2008 A connection between the clubs that are struggling down at the bottom and why they are. All having the same aim of promotion to the Prem? I'm pretty sure everyone in the Championship has that aim
Ultra Posted 23 March 2008 Posted 23 March 2008 All having the same aim of promotion to the Prem? I'm pretty sure everyone in the Championship has that aim All but the bottom two, who have overachieved to reach even this level.
